Giannis Antetokounmpo ended one of the greatest NBA Finals ever with 50 points and a championship Milwaukee waited 50 years to win again. Antetokounmpo added 14 rebounds and five blocked shots as the Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns 105-98 on Tuesday night to win the series 4-2. It was the third game this series with at least 40 points and 10 rebounds for Antetokounmpo, a dominant debut finals performance that takes its place among some of the game’s greatest. He shot 16 for 25 from the field and made an unbelievable 17-of-19 free throws. He did all that while dealing with a hyperextended left knee that prevented him from playing in the last two games of the Eastern Conference finals against the Atlanta Hawks. Antetokounmpo was an easy choice for the MVP honor. Khris Middleton scored 17 points for the Bucks and Bobby Portis came off the bench with 16. Jrue Holiday had 12 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds to go along with his usual sturdy defense that helped finally cool off Devin Booker. Brook Lopez had 10 points and eight rebounds. Chris Paul scored 26 points to lead the Suns and end his first NBA Finals appearance in his 16th season. Booker added 19 points but shot just 8 for 22 and missed all seven 3-pointers after scoring 40 points in each of the last two games.
The game was tied at 77 after three quarters but Antetokoumpo had 13 points in the fourth to make sure Milwaukee wouldn’t have to go back to Phoenix for Game 7 on Thursday. In a season played played largely without fans, the Bucks had 65,000 of them packed into the Deer District outside. The Bucks became the fifth team to win the NBA Finals after trailing 2-0 and the first to do it by winning the next four games since Miami against Dallas in 2006.
Ryan O’Hearn and Jorge Soler homered as the Kansas City Royals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 Tuesday in a game that began early to give local fans a chance to watch their team in the NBA Finals. The start time was moved up four hours at American Family Field. Mike Minor (7-8) allowed one earned run and five hits in six innings, snapping a personal four-start losing streak. He struck out five and walked one. Greg Holland got his sixth save as the Royals improved to 3-0 against Milwaukee in 2021. O’Hearn hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the seventh off Hunter Strickland (0-1). It was his seventh home run of the season. Soler’s eighth homer, a solo drive in the fourth, tied it at 2. Andrew Benintendi had a sacrifice fly in the Royals first. Manny Pina’s two-run single in the second put Milwaukee up 2-1. Avisail Garcia had three hits for the Brewers.
The Brewers and Royals wrap up their two-game set Wednesday afternoon with Milwaukee LHP Eric Lauer (3-4, 3.83 ERA) opposing RHP Brad Keller (6-9, 5.97). Lauer was originally slated to start Tuesday but was given an extra day because of a fingernail issue that had been bothering him after his last start. First pitch is at 1:10 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
Elsewhere in the NL Central on Tuesday the Reds edged the Mets 4-3, the Cubs nipped the Cardinals 7-6 and the Diamondbacks beat the Pirates 11-6. The first-place Brewers lead the Reds by 6 ½ games, the Cubs and Cardinals by 7 and the Pirates are 19 ½ out.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers offered quarterback Aaron Rodgers a two-year contract extension that would have made him the highest-paid player in the NFL. According to Schefter, Rodgers turned down the offer that would have tied him to Green Bay for five more years. Rodgers missed all of the Packers offseason programs including mandatory minicamp. Packers Training Camp begins on July 28 with veterans due to report on Tuesday.
Anglers who wish to take part in a Wisconsin winter tradition must apply for their tags soon. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says the deadline to apply for an Upriver Lakes sturgeon spearing tag is Aug. 1. Only 500 license holders will be selected from these applications to spear a sturgeon from lakes Poygan, Winneconne or Butte des Morts due to a higher success rate on the Upriver Lakes. There is a 62% average success rate on Upriver Lakes compared to 9% average on Lake Winnebago. The sturgeon spearing tradition on Lake Winnebago, Lake Poygan, Lake Winneconne, and Lake Butte des Morts will begin on Feb. 12, 2022, and run for a maximum of 16 days or until any of the predetermined harvest caps are reached. The public can purchase resident and nonresident licenses online using the DNR’s Go Wild license portal or at any license sales location. All license holders must be a minimum of 12 years old or turning 12 years old between Nov. 1, 2021, and the last day of the 2022 spearing season.
