The Milwaukee Bucks have a chance tonight to close out the NBA Finals at home against Phoenix and win their first title since 1971. The Bucks have won the last three games, the latest Saturday night, to set up a potential party 50 years in the making.
Around 17,000 fans are expected inside the arena and the Bucks announced Monday that the Deer District has been expanded to allow up to 65,000 fans to stand shoulder-to-shoulder outside. Barricades line the sidewalks around the arena and restaurants within walking distance were contemplating how to get employees into and back home from work through the anticipated crowds.
If the Suns do win Tuesday, they would bring the series back to Phoenix for Game 7 on Thursday. After a strong start Saturday night, the Bucks had pounded them for 79 points in the second and third quarters to open a double-digit lead. The comeback fell short when Jrue Holiday stripped Devin Booker and fired an alley-oop pass to Antetokounmpo, but coach Monty Williams saw a resilience that will be needed now more than ever.
Devin Booker has scored 40 points in two straight games, something Giannis Antetokounmpo died earlier in the series and only five other players have done in the NBA Finals. Yet as good as he’s been, the star guard said he has to be even better in Game 6. Tipoff tonight is at 8:00 CDT.
After a day off Monday, the Brewers are back in action this afternoon to begin at two-game set with the Royals at American Family Field. First pitch was moved up to 3:10 so there wouldn’t be any conflict with the Bucks game tonight. A pair of left-handers square off as Mike Minor (6-8, 5.67 ERA) faces Eric Lauer (3-4, 3.83 ERA). The game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
In the NL Central Monday the Mets outslugged the Reds 15-11, the Cardinals downed the Cubs 8-3 and the Diamondbacks beat the Pirates 4-2. The Brewers, which are coming off a three-game sweep at Cincinnati over the weekend, lead the Reds by 7 ½ games, the Cardinals by 8 ½, the Cubs by 9 ½ and the Pirates by 19 ½ games in the division.
On Tuesday (tonight), as the Rays and Orioles take the field in St. Petersburg, Major League Baseball’s first all-women broadcast team will take the mics for MLB’s Game of the Week Live on YouTube. Heidi Watney and Gardner will serve as co-hosts for the pre- and post-game shows, with Sarah Langs (analyst), Melanie Newman (play-by-play) and Alanna Rizzo (reporter) handling game broadcast duties.
