The Bucks will be trying to avoid going down two games to nothing in the NBA Finals tonight when they play game two in Phoenix. The Suns won the opener Tuesday night 118-105. Phoenix was led by Chris Paul with 32 points and nine assists while Devin Booker had 27 and Deandre Ayton who chipped in with 22 points and 19 rebounds, so the Bucks will have to pick up their defense. Khris Middleton led Milwaukee with 29 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo had 22 points and 17 rebounds after missing two games with a hyperextended left knee. Drue Holiday missed 10 of his 14 shots and finished with just 10 points, so the Bucks will need a lot more production from him. Holiday averaged 26 points and 11 assists in the two victories that Antetokounmpo missed to end the Eastern Conference finals. Milwaukee will be playing from behind again after dropping game 1 for the third straight series. After tonight the series shifts back to Milwaukee for game 3 on Sunday. Tipoff tonight is at 7:00 CDT.
The Brewers split a doubleheader against the Mets yesterday, losing the first game 4-3, but winning the second game 5-0 behind two-run homers by Manny Pina and Luis Urías along with Willy Adames’ solo shot. Urías homered twice in the doubleheader to raise his total to 12, after he hit none last year.
In the first game, Mets ace Jacob deGrom gave up a pair of solo home runs and got his third straight no-decision as New York beat the Brewers 4-3 on Wednesday in the eight-inning opener of a doubleheader split. DeGrom allowed a home run to Urías on his fourth pitch and another to Jace Peterson that put Milwaukee ahead 2-1 in the fifth. deGrom saw his ERA go over 1.00 for the first time this season and it was revealed after the game that he will skip the All-Star Game.
Pinch-hitter José Peraza, batting for deGrom, hit a tying home run with one out in the seventh off Josh Hader, who had converted 24 save chances since Sept. 20. Edwin Díaz (3-2) forced in a run by hitting Christian Yelich on the right thigh with a fastball on the first pitch of an at-bat in the eighth, the third time in his big league career Díaz hit a batter with the bases loaded. Jeff McNeil hit a two-run single with no outs in the bottom half off Brent Suter (8-4), who was trying for his first big league save.
Brewers ace Corbin Burnes gave up one run and six hits while striking out eight and walking none over 5 2/3 innings. Francisco Lindor blooped an RBI single in the first.
Jake Cousins (1-0) got his first big league win in the second game by pitching a perfect fifth in relief of starter Brett Anderson, who threw four innings. Milwaukee allowed three hits in its ninth shutout. Robert Stock (0-2) gave up two runs in four innings, and the Mets were blanked for the eighth time.
Milwaukee returns home tonight to host the Cincinnati Reds as RHP Adrian Houser (5-5, 3.94 ERA) starts for the Brewers in the opener of a four-game series. First pitch is at 7:10 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
In other games in the NL Central on Wednesday the Braves pounded the Pirates 14-3, the Reds beat the Royals 5-2, the Cubs over the Phillies 8-3 and the Giants beat the Cardinals 5-2. The Brewers lead the Reds by 6 games in the division, the Cubs by 8 ½, the Cardinals by 9 and the Pirates by 19 games.
Tampa Bay Lightning players surrounded the Stanley Cup again, putting their hands all over the trophy they won for the second time in 10 months as the Lightning edged the Montreal Canadians 1-0 in game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Lightning are coached by Jon Cooper, who won the USHL Clark Cup with the Green Bay Gamblers in 2010. Tampa Bay assistant coach Derek LaLonde also won a Clark Cup title with Gamblers in 2012. The two coaches have now combined to win back-to-back Stanley Cup titles.

The Dock Spiders’ offense could not have had a stronger start to the second-half of the NWL season than it did in Wednesday’s win over the Mallards. After Tuesday’s matchup was postponed due to rain, the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders defeated the Madison Mallards, 14-8, to earn their first win past the midpoint of the NWL season.
The Dock Spiders (23-13) will welcome Traverse City Thursday night to Herr-Baker Field with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
