Highly touted Milwaukee prospect Aaron Ashby got hammered for seven runs in the first inning of his big league debut, but Luis Urias homered twice as the Brewers rallied to rout the Chicago Cubs 15-7 for their eighth straight win. The Brewers swept the three-game series and increased their NL Central lead to six games over Chicago. The Cubs lost their sixth in a row. Willy Adames hit a grand slam during an eight-run burst in the fourth inning that put Milwaukee ahead 14-7.   His error at shortstop helped the Cubs break loose at the start against Ashby.

Down seven runs before they swung a bat, the Brewers came all the way back to take a seven-run lead by the fourth inning at American Family Field on Wednesday. It was Milwaukee’s greatest comeback victory in a decade.

Milwaukee scored one run in the first inning, five in the second and eight in the fourth with a rally in which Jace Peterson gave the Brewers their first lead with a two-run single, and Willy Adames punctuated things with Milwaukee’s first 2021 grand slam.

When Luis Urías hit his second home run of the game in the sixth, the Brewers had scored 15 unanswered runs. The bullpen kept it that way, with five Milwaukee pitchers combining for 8 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. The last team to trail by at least seven runs and then win by at least seven runs was the Marlins against the Phillies on Aug. 23, 2019, when Miami trailed 7-0 and won 19-11. Wednesday marked only the sixth instance of a game like that since 1950.

Trevor Richards (3-0) pitched two hitless innings and picked up the win, while striking out three and walking two.  Rex Brothers (2-1) took the loss.  He lasted 1 1/3 innings, giving up three runs, all earned, on two hits.  Cubs starter Jake Arietta was pulled after giving  up six runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.

The Brewers host the last-place Pirates tonight as a pair of right-handers square off.  Corbin Burnes (3-4, 2.53 ERA) starts for Milwaukee against Will Crowe (1-4, 6.50 ERA.  First pitch is at 6:05 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.

Elsewhere in the NL Central on Wednesday the Rockies beat the Pirates 6-2, the Padres downed the Reds 7-5 and the Cardinals beat the Diamondbacks 7-4.  The Brewers lead the Cubs by 6 games, the Cardinals and Reds by 8 and the Pirates by 18.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is doubtful for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Thursday after undergoing an MRI on his injured left knee. Bucks officials said the two-time MVP hyperextended his left knee in the third quarter of a 110-88 game 4 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night. The Bucks announced Wednesday that an MRI confirmed that diagnosis and said he’d be listed as doubtful for Thursday’s game.

“We’ll just take it day by day and see how he’s doing,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said.

Antetokounmpo was attempting to block a dunk attempt by Atlanta’s Clint Capela when he landed awkwardly. He clutched his knee in obvious pain and remained down for several minutes before walking slowly to the locker room.  He briefly went back to the Bucks’ bench and then returned to the locker room shortly afterward.

Antetokounmpo has been averaging 28.2 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists in the postseason. Milwaukee went 6-5 in the 11 regular-season games Antetokounmpo missed, including a stretch of six straight games in April when he also was dealing with an injured left knee.

The Bucks and Hawks are tied at two games apiece in the Eastern Conference finals heading into Game 5 on Thursday in Milwaukee. Tipoff is at 7:30 at Fiserv Forum.

Western Conference Finals (Wed.)

Phoenix 130, LA Clippers 103 (Suns will series 4-2)

NHL Stanley Cup Finals

Tampa Bay 3, Montreal 1 (Tampa Bay leads 2-0).

Two men who ran onto the field during the final quarter of Super Bowl LV in February have pleaded no contest to trespassing and agreed to a year of probation. The two reached the deal Tuesday during a virtual hearing in Tampa, Florida. Under the terms of their probation, the men must perform 100 hours of community service, pay a $500 fine and write letters of apology to the National Football League, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

“I think you can tell by now, what might have been amusing back during the Super Bowl was not very amusing,” Hillsborough County Judge Jack Gutman said. “It inconvenienced a lot of people. You exposed people to injury. And hopefully you learned your lesson about all this. It’s not funny at all.”

One of the men told the judge, “No more streaking. I promise.”

He had scampered onto the field Feb. 7 in the fourth quarter of the championship game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was wearing shorts and a pink leotard or swimsuit. He was eventually tackled and removed from the stadium. The other man ran onto the field first, distracting security officers. One of them said they planned the gag with another man, a social media personality who runs an adult website that was written on the front of the pink outfit.

The Denmark baseball team beat Jefferson 4-1 Wednesday night to claim the WIAA Division 2 state championship, the first gold ball in program history. The Vikings used a 3-run 4th inning to break and 1-1 tie en route to victory in Grand Chute.

The Kaukauna Ghosts softball defeated Sun Prairie 1-0 in the WIAA Division 1 State Championship on Wednesday at King Park on the UW-Green Bay campus.  Kaukauna has now won three WIAA State Softball Championships in three trips to the State Tournament.
