Other Crimes Associated With Drug Trafficking

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says a major drug and criminal activity interdiction on the county’s major highways last month was a worthwhile effort. He says in addition to robbery, burglary and human trafficking there is money laundering, illegal weapon possession and more violent crimes such as shootings and murder and attempted murders. He says the city of Fond du Lac has seen an uptick in shootings connected with drug crimes. Last month’s multi-jurisdictional effort netted 331 traffic stops with 21 felony arrest and 23 arrests for misdemeanors.

Business Personal Property Tax

Governor Ever’s partial veto powers used on the state budget kept a business personal property tax alive. Envision Greater Fond du Lac CEO and President Sadie Parafiniuk says the tax on equipment and furnishings businesses use to conduct business and raises revenue for counties and municipalities. She says for a long time business has sought to get the tax eliminated, which can cost a small business hiring an accountant to do inventory and prepare the taxes more than the actual property tax. She says the state was vowing to make municipalities whole for the revenue if the tax were eliminated. Parafiniuk says they will have to see what the state legislature comes up with.
