Good Budget

State Senator Joan Ballweg feels the State Budget passed by the Assembly and State Senate this week was responsible and fulfills a lot of needs. The Joint Finance Committee member from Markesan says they heard a lot of positive feedback about the budget that was put together by the JFC. “I just think that this is, we’ve heard very good feedback from cities, municipalities, conservation groups, the agriculture community, tourism. There are so many entities that see this as a positive budget.” She says there will be over $2 billion in the state’s “Rainy Day” fund with another $500 million in the state’s “checkbook” if it is needed. She says we can be proud of the way Wisconsin’s economy came through the pandemic.

Challenges Of Redistricting Presentation

The League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area will host a presentation on the challenges of Redistricting at the local level. The presentation is Thursday, July 15th at 7 pm in the Community Room of the Ripon High School. Because of the challenges associated with the census, data has been delayed. This delay at the national level flows down from Congressional districts to state Senate and Assembly districts to county, town, City, and village districts. The presentation will share the status of voting districts at the local level.  Speakers for the evening will include former Ripon College professor and Fond du Lac County Board Chairperson Marty Farrell and County Clerk Lisa Freiberg.

Fireworks Safety

Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul urges residents to leave the fireworks to the professionals.  “Our final message is leave the fireworks to the professionals, but we all know better than that because we all enjoy the fireworks and they are sold everywhere.  If you do it you got to do it and use your common sense and make sure adults are around.” He says if you light some fireworks that don’t go off don’t get curious and go up and inspect them because they still could go off. Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services says there were 167 emergency room visits last year that were due to fireworks-related injuries. Fireworks safety tips are available at the Ripon Area Fire District Facebook page.
