He was expected to celebrate Father’s Day with family. When he left for work earlier in the day he left behind his wallet and phone and wasn’t heard from after that. Fort Benning officials asked for the help of community members in searching for him after he was last seen Sunday afternoon driving his car. Specialist Ziehm is a member of Headquarters Company, 4th Ranger Training Battalion Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade at Ft. Benning. Army officials are thanking everyone who looked for him and ensured his safe return.
Ogdensburg Man Bound Over For Trial In Son’s Death
The 39-year-old Ogdensburg man charged for the death of his 2-year-old son who was killed in a skid steer accident was bound over for trial Monday in Waupaca County court. Caleb Schachtschneider waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He is charged with second degree reckless homicide. He told a responding Sheriff’s deputy that he was using the skid steer to clear manure and had his 2-year-old son in his lap. As he moved to lower the bucket the toddler fell forward and hit his head on a crossbar and it got crushed while the bucket was still being lowered. The boy died later at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Schachtschneider later admitted he had the boy in front of him instead of behind a restraint bar. He also admitted the boy was at his feet and not in his lap.
Dallman Votes To Fund Police

State Representative Alex Dallman voted to support law enforcement in communities throughout the state by voting for a bill that decreases shared revenue payments to municipalities who cut funding for their police departments. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says, “By continuing “defund the police”, we certainly are not making our local communities any safer.” He adds that as funding for law enforcement and safety personnel decrease in municipalities across the country there has been a rise in violent crime. In cases where fewer officers are warranted, the bill allows municipalities to enter into cooperative agreements to share law enforcement with other units of government or to transfer responsibility to another unit of government to avoid a cut to shared revenue.

FDL County Headed In Right Direction
Fond du Lac County’s Public Health Officer feels the county is going in the right direction when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic. Monday morning the county was reporting 34 active cases and Tuesday it had fallen to 27 cases. Kim Mueller says that’s a reflection of the precautions people have taken including getting vaccinated against the coronavirus. She points out during the height of the health crisis the number of active cases was probably over 1,200 in the county. “That is huge, I mean that number used to be in the hundreds and I want to say it was definitely over 1,000 probably 1,200 at one point and that would be that many cases in our community that are infectious.” She says it’s important more people get vaccinated because it lessens the likelihood the virus will mutate into another more infectious variant. According to the state’s Department of Health Services a little over 42 percent of Fond du Lac County residents had gotten at least one dose of the vaccine and 39 percent were fully immunized.
Back To Late Night Funny Business
Another sign we are getting closer to normal with the pandemic, late night talk show hosts are beginning to perform in front of live in-person audiences for their shows. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Taskforce says it happened last week when one of hosts entertained a live audience that was fully-vaccinated and 14 days out from their last dose of vaccine. He says it is something for people to be excited about. “For all these months they’ve been sitting in their houses and every place else where all these late night people are doing their shows it certainly has a different feel about it and it is easy to get excited about this.” Puhlmann-Becker says we need to continue to push for more people to get vaccinated so there are more safe opportunities for people to attend entertainment events in larger venues in-person.
Donations Sought For Green Lake Fireworks Display
Green Lake is expecting to have a fun-filled 4th of July celebration capped by a fireworks display. Green Lake Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Meier says the City of Green Lake has generously agreed to split the cost of putting on the fireworks with the chamber. So they are taking donations to cover their costs. “We are looking for funds to cover the fireworks display. Thanks to the City of Green Lake they contributed half of it and now we have to raise the other half. Last year we didn’t have a problem so in a couple of weeks we raised that amount.” Those who would like to donate can visit the Visit Green Lake.com website and once there look for the donate online option. All of Green Lake’s 4th of July festivities will be held on Sunday, July 4th.
