FDL Man Arrested For Fourth OWI Following Accident
A 42-year-old Fond du Lac man was arrested for his fourth operating while under the influence offense last Sunday in Columbia County. Sheriff’s officials say they got a report just after 10 pm about a vehicle crash on Highway 60 in the Town of West Point. Mark Roughen was driving a 2016 GMC truck and 5th wheel camper trailer when he entered a ditch and rolled the vehicle over. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the UW-Hospital for treatment. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office made seven OWI-related arrests over the weekend.
Email Scam
Town of Ripon Police are warning residents about a scam that uses a person’s email list to get unsuspecting friends and acquaintances to acquire a number of Apple gift cards. The email list was real, it was hacked and the scammer used the list to email requests to that person’s friends and acquaintances. The problem is some of those receiving the email recognized the sender’s email address and fulfilled the request. One of the signs it was a scam was the sign off from the email, which didn’t match what the person with the real email list usually uses. Police urge residents to double check the authenticity of any message you receive requesting money orders or gift cards.
Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reported In Oshkosh
City of Oshkosh officials say it does not appear any wastewater reached the city’s storm sewer system or Lake Winnebago during a sanitary sewer overflow last Saturday and Sunday. It happened on East Waukau Avenue near the intersection of Old Orchard Lane. The overflow was released from a broken force main, and the amount of leakage is still being determined. Containment, clean up, and repair of the broken pipe began as soon as it was identified that a sanitary sewer release had occurred. The leak was reported by a citizen.

Lakeside Park Enhancement Vote A Disappointment

The Envision Greater Fond du Lac Board of Directors was disappointed last month when the Fond du Lac City Council terminated an enhancement agreement for Lakeside Park. Envision President and CEO Sadie Parafiniuk says proposed improvements included a multi-purpose building with a restaurant, boardwalk, amphitheater, and more. A group had come forward to pledge millions to make that alternative master plan a reality. “The group Lakeside Forward were the private businesses who had pledged a $6 million donation to bring the alternative master plan to life.” Following the Council’s vote Envision’s Board issued a press release expressing their disappointment. Parafiniuk says unfortunately the Council’s vote sent the wrong message to businesses and developers. But she says Envision will continue to promote life, business and development in Fond du Lac County. She says since the Council’s vote there has been no more movement on a master plan for the park.

Ripon School Resource Officer Lindsey Michels will be wearing several hats this summer. While kids are out of school rather than return to patrol duties she will have a role as a community liaison and code enforcement officer. Police Chief Bill Wallner says the combined position grew out of one of their initiatives. “Part of our initiative to get more involved in the community to have some more of that outreach that we have always tried to do and we just want to try and make the department more accessible and have that continued outreach.” He says that will involve attending meetings for different organizations in town, outreaching to different faiths, and planning department events. One of the events she recently helped to plan was a Bike Rodeo, which was held last week.
Some Fans Say Fooey On Concert Requirement
Another sign thing are getting back to normal from the pandemic a Foo Fighters Concert at Madison Square Garden the first in over a year. One of the requirements for purchasing tickets fans have to have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the last or final dose 14 days before the June 20th concert. Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says some people need incentive for getting vaccinated and this was another way of showing support for the vaccine. “The Foo Fighters are doing a full capacity concert at Madison Square Garden in a couple of weeks. Life if starting to return to normal.” The caveat is you have to have proof you were vaccinated and meet the requirement before you can purchase the tickets. Some fans criticized the news of the concert dropping 12 days before the concert not giving some the time to have been fully vaccinated 14 days before the event. The vaccination requirement is part of a New York State mandate for such large-scale events.
