RAFD Non-Emergency Number After Hours Will Ring Through To FDL County
Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul urges city residents to get used to calling 911 for all emergencies. Saul notes in the past their non-emergency number (920) 745-2262 would ring through to him late at night or early in the morning to report fires and emergencies. In fact he got a fire call from that number at four o’clock one morning last week. He says in the near future after-hours calls to that number will ring through to Fond du Lac County Dispatch instead. “Currently that is still transferred to me, but within the next week or two that will be transferred to Fond du Lac County after hours.” Saul notes they can’t respond to a scene unless they are dispatched to it, so he says people should call 911 if it is a fire or emergency. The transitionto Fond du Lac County Dispatch for Ripon, Police, Fire and EMS was completed a week ago today.

Sunscreen Recommendations
An area dermatologist recommends using sun screen if you’re going to spend any extended period of time outdoors on these hot days. Dr. Burt Steffes recommends a sun screen with an SPF or Sun Protection Factor of 30 or higher to protect you from the harmful Ultraviolet Radiation or UVA rays put off by the sun. He recommends using a sunscreen that also contains zinc. “Anything 30 or higher is generally acceptable, but what we also have to think about and focus on is how well a sunscreen works to protect us against UV radiation.” He says it should be applied before you go outdoors and reapplied every 2 to 3 hours you spend outside. Another option is sun protective clothing. Dr. Steffes says skin cancer is a growing problem in our country due to the amount of exposure to the sun throughout your life. He works with Dermatology and Cosmetics Physicians, which has offices in Fond du Lac and West Bend.
