Ripon Common Council Preview

The Ripon Common Council tonight will discuss a proposed ordinance for allowing ATV and UTV use in the city. The Council broached the subject several times before and in September of last year tabled discussion. At the time Police Chief Bill Wallner told the council he had discussed ATV and UTV use with Town of Ripon Police and the Town Chairman and they were not in favor of opening every Town road for routes. He felt the city and town would have to hold conversations to make it work. The council tonight will also consider how to fill a vacancy in District 2 on the council. Councilman Ben Morrison resigned at the council’s last meeting because he was moving out of the district. The council meets at 7 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Vaccine Passports

The next political football connected with COVID-19 is the so-called “Vaccine Passport.” “Vaccine passports” are considered a physical or digital copy of your medical record showing that you have or have not taken the full doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The State Assembly recently passed a bill that prohibits the use of “vaccine passports” for the COVID-19 vaccine by any public or private business. Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says a hospital in Texas fired employees who refused to get vaccinated, which led to a lawsuit. He says some people feel the passports could be discriminatory in nature. State Representative Alex Dallman of Green Lake says people should not be forced to reveal their private medical decisions to the public.

FDL County Among Counties With Moderate Level Of COVID 19 Activity

One of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services newer metrics for the COVID-19 battle is the Disease Activity level by county. Heading into the weekend none of Wisconsin’s 72 counties was in the very high category, but more than 50 were in the moderate risk category. That included Fond du Lac County. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says that in part is because surrounding counties are in the same category, which reflects those counties have over 10 active cases. Mueller says that category has role in determining the restrictions and precautions long-term care facilities use for their residents and visitors. For the first time this past week the state had more than 10 counties that were in the low risk category for that particular metric.
