Children Catching Up With The Rest Of The Population On COVID Vaccine

A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force is encouraged by how quickly the 12-to-16-year-old segment has caught up with the rest of the population in getting vaccinated against the coronavirus. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says even though that group wasn’t eligible to get vaccinated until just recently it is surprising how fast it caught up with other segments when it comes to those who have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. “The younger part of the population they are catching up quickly with their doses, children 12 to 16-year-olds 61 percent of them have at least one dose so they are almost on par with the rest of the population.” He says that’s good news because it demonstrates that the parents of those children have faith in the vaccine and how it protects against COVID-19.

ADVOCAP Accepting Head Start Registration

ADVOCAP is taking registration for their Head Start classes for three and four-year-olds. ADVOCAP has Head Start programs in Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Berlin, Markesan and Ripon.  Lorri Bohn is a Family Engagement Manager for ADVOCAP. She says they offer a half-day program for 3 and 4-year-olds and have a full-day 4K program in Berlin. She says some of the most frequently asked questions include whether the kids have to take a nap, which they don’t. “But we do encourage them and support them in entertaining themselves quietly, which is really an important skill as all of our adults know to be able to occupy your own time and be content.” She says another frequent question is whether they will accept children that aren’t potty-trained yet. Bohn says unlike other Head Start and pre-school programs they do.  If you are interested in enrolling your child in an ADVOCAP Head Start program call Lorri Bohn at 920-922-7760, extension 3544.
