Information Sought On Theft Suspect

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a thief who took live bait and logoed clothing from the Best Dam Bait Shop in the Town of Beaver Dam Monday without paying for it. The business operates on an honor system in order to keep open for purchases at all times of the day. However the thief took the merchandise between 9 and 10 pm this past Monday evening without paying for it. A surveillance photo of the suspect has been posted on the department’s Facebook page. Anyone with information can remain anonymous and submit that information by phone, email, the sheriff’s website or phone app. It should be directed to Sergeant Krueger for case number 21-19743. Ballweg Bill Reduces Penalty For Late Reporting Requirement

The State Senate passed a bill State Senator Joan Ballweg authored which limits the maximum penalty for villages and towns who submit their annual report for general transportation aids late. Under current law, municipalities are penalized by 1 percent of their previous year’s overall aid amount per working day, up to a maximum of 10 percent. The legislation will limit that penalty to $100 per working day, up to the maximum amount of $2,200. The state lawmaker from Markesan says her office learned municipalities’ general transportation aids were being reduced by thousands of dollars because of things like technical errors. She says enforcing those deadlines should not devastate the ability to adequately fund local road projects. The bill is awaiting action in the State Assembly.

Unemployment Rates Fall

Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development says May unemployment rates for all 72 of Wisconsin counties decreased compared to May of 2020 and April of this year. Jobless rates for Fond du Lac and Dodge counties were at 3.2 percent in May, 3.4 percent in Winnebago County, 3.6 percent in Waupaca County and 4.2 percent in both Marquette and Waushara counties. Green Lake County’s unemployment rate for the month was at 4.3 percent. According to Federal Labor statistics the unemployment rate in Oshkosh last month was 3.7 percent and it was at 3.8 percent for Fond du Lac.

FDL County Health Department Reaps Awards And Criticism Over COVID Work

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it was unusual the awards and honors the county health department picked up this year for their hard work during the pandemic. She points out that usually when it comes to communicable diseases their battle is quiet as they try to keep things confidential, but that wasn’t possible with COVID-19. She says the honors and praise they received was flattering and appreciated. “I know my staff as well as myself we appreciate the caring words and the compassion that we get from people that notice the work that we are doing because like I mentioned it is usually a job that goes unnoticed.” She says they coached their staff not to take criticism or angry comments personally for some of the work they did particularly contact tracing when they had to notify someone they had contracted a disease they didn’t want.

Breakfast On The Farm Sunday

Breakfast on the Farm in Fond du Lac County is coming up Sunday. Unlike last year’s drive through event, people will be able to attend and socialize like normal. Amy Ries is the Director of Agricultural Programs for Envision Greater Fond du Lac. She says it will be a little different because the host farm LaClare Family Creamery is a goat farm that produces goat cheese. “Obviously when people think of June Dairy Month they think of Dairy being cows, but actually Fond du Lac County is kind of an epicenter in the country of a rising goat dairy population as well.” Breakfast on the Farm is Sunday from 8 am to Noon. It will feature a country-style breakfast that includes cheesy potatoes. There will also be live music, antique farm equipment on display, a kiddie tractor pull, educational area, children’s activity areas and more. Tickets are available through Envision Greater Fond du Lac and will also be available at the farm.
