Fire Destroys Chicken Coop And Leads To Grass Fire

18 June 2021 News

Firefighters responded to a structure fire at W14219 Mielke Road in the Town of Alto Thursday afternoon. A neighbor reported the fire at 1:47 pm. When a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy responded it was learned the structure was a chicken coop. A family member of the property owner started the fire, which was intended to be a controlled burn. The fire spread from the chicken coop to a surrounding marsh grass area owned by the property owner Beverly Scallon. It spread to approximately 8 acres before it was contained by responding fire departments. The chicken coop was a total loss. The fire is not considered suspicious.
