DeMar DeRozan had 23 points and the San Antonio Spurs set a franchise record for points in the first half while rolling to a 146-125 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. San Antonio set a season high for points and a team best with 87 points in the first half, the second-most the club has scored in any half. The Spurs tied their mark for any half with 12 3-pointers in the first and finished 17 for 29 from long range. Dejounte Murray added 21 points, Keldon Johnson and Patty Mills each had 20 and Rudy Gay scored 19 for San Antonio. Mills and Gay combined to shoot 9 for 15 on 3s. Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points on 11-for-16 shooting. Khris Middleton added 23 points and Jrue Holiday had 20
Milwaukee had a five-game winning streak snapped and dropped a game behind idle Brooklyn for second place in the Eastern Conference. San Antonio’s magic number for clinching a berth in the play-in tournament dropped to two over 11th-place New Orleans. The Spurs can secure a second straight spot in the play-in tournament with any combination of wins and Pelicans losses that equals two. San Antonio had lost six of seven entering Monday but got off to historic start against Milwaukee. The Spurs had a season-high 45 points in the first quarter, which was also the fourth-largest total in franchise history, and followed it with the most points in team history during the first half. The Spurs shot 67% from the field and on 3-pointers in the first half.
The Bucks are back home tonight, hosting the Orlando Magic.
The Brewers had a rare day off Monday but are back at American Family Field tonight, to begin a three-game series with the Cardinals. St. Louis is first in the NL Central, two games ahead of Milwaukee. The Cardinals send left-hander Kwang Hyun Kim (1-0) against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta (3-1). First pitch is at 6:40 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
There was just one game in the NL Central Monday as the Reds pounded the Pirates, 14-1.
The Packers are holding a rookie camp this weekend and according to ESPN”s Rob Demovsky, two tryout players will be at the quarterback position. Of course the talk is still on Aaron Rodgers and will the disgruntled quarterback return to the team this season. His main receiver, Davante Adams, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this coming season, is also concerned. He was asked on The Herd Monday if he would return to the Packers if Rodgers wasn’t there.
“Pentially,” Adams said on ‘The Herd.’ “Potentially. mean that is my guy. That’s the only guy that I’ve had other than that 2017 season when he got hurt. That’s the only guy that I have played with. We have built up a special connection over the years that has made it, you know, put us both in really good positions in our careers. So it would change a lot man; it doesn’t mean potentially I would be gone but I’d definitely have to do some extra thinking if my guy wasn’t here.”
But after acknowledging his symbiotic relationship with Rodgers, the record-setting receiver went on to express extreme optimism that this whole thing will get worked out.
“We have talked a little bit,” Adams said. “A lot is still being figured out on his end. So it’s tough for me to get into specifics and speak on it. I would love to. Can’t wait until I can just get on here and say he’s back and we are back to doing the thing that we’ve been doing. But for now he has to iron out a few things and you know hopefully I will be back on the show celebrating, and taking shots. I have been behind him 100 percent throughout the whole thing. Obviously I am praying everything works out and we can get him back and continue to go out and do things like you see on the screen because it is a lot of fun doing that.”
Adams, who caught 115 passes for 1,374 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, is in the final year of a four-year, $58 million deal. With an average per year of $14.5 million, he’s slipped to No. 15 on the receiver pay scale.
Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the Jacksonville Jaguars plan to sign Tim Tebow to a one-year contract, per sources informed of the situation. The deal is expected to be official in the next week or so. It’s a position switch scouts implored the former Denver Broncos first-round quarterback to make more than a decade ago. Tebow spend two seasons with Denver, compiling an 8-6 record as a starter.and then spent one season with the Jets, attempting just eight passes, completing six while playing special teams and carrying the ball 32 times for 102 yards, primarily out of the Wildcat. He then spent offseasons with the Patriots (2013) and Eagles (2015), respectively, before washing out of the NFL. After a media stint, the 33-year old Tebow tried his hand at baseball, spending the past five years in the New York Mets system.
The Green Bay Packers are holding a job fair for gameday employees. On-site interviews will be held Wednesday, May 12, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Applicants should report to the Johnsonville Tailgate Village on the east side of Lambeau Field. Employees are needed for guest services and security at home games and events. Applicants must be at least 16.
“Qualifications for the positions include strong verbal communication and conversation skills, trouble-shooting skills, ability to stay focused on job responsibilities and ability to stand throughout the entire shift,” reads a statement from the Packers.
Employees will be needed at all home games, Family Night, potential playoff games and other events. Applicants must wear a mask. The interviews will be set up to allow for social distancing. Those who cannot attend in person should apply online at https://www.packers.com/lambeau-field/employment
