Jackie Bradley Jr.’s two-out hit off the right-field wall brought home Omar Narváez in the 10th inning to give the Milwaukee Brewers a 6-5 victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday. Willy Adames hit a three-run homer with four hits and four RBIs to help the Brewers earn a four-game split. The shortstop, acquired from Tampa Bay last week, also threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate in the eighth inning. Eric Hosmer had a two-run homer for the Padres, who lost for just the second time in 13 games. San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. went 2 of 2 with two runs and two RBIs, though tthe shortstop committed two errors on one play.
After Keston Hiura led off the 10th with a sacrifice that advanced Narváez, the automatic runner who started on second under pandemic rules. Luis Urías hit a fly to right that wasn’t deep enough to score the runner. Bradley responded with a hit off Miguel Diaz (2-1).
Brent Suter (4-3) held the Padres scoreless in the 10th, thanks in part to a couple of nice plays from Urías at third base. After Adames’ homer off Craig Stammen put the Brewers ahead 5-3 in the seventh, the Padres tied the game and nearly took the lead in the eighth against Devin Williams.
Jurickson Profar led off the eighth a walk, stole second and scored on Tatis.’ bloop hit to left. Tatis advanced to third when Hosmer singled. That brought up pinch-hitter Manny Machado, who lined a double to right-center that brought home Tatis with the tying run. Hosmer also tried to score on the play but was thrown out by Adames.
Milwaukee had appeared to take control of the game in the seventh when Adames hit his sixth homer of the season, and first since the Brewers acquired him from the Tampa Bay Rays.
hat came after Hosmer had put San Diego ahead with a homer in the sixth that capped a three-run outburst against Trevor Richards, who also came over from Tampa Bay in that Adames trade.
Each team broke through against the other’s bullpen after the two starters – Milwaukee’s Adrian Houser and San Diego’s Ryan Weathers – allowed one hit apiece in relatively short outings. Weathers struck out five and walked two but left after throwing 78 pitches in four innings. Weathers has gone longer than four innings in just one of his six starts. Houser struck out four and issued just one walk in five innings but was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth.
The Brewers begin a three-game set at Washington on Friday. The matchup of left-handers includes Brett Anderson (2-3, 4.34) for Milwaukee and Jon Lester (0-2, 5.33) for the Nationals. First pitch is at 6:05 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
Elsewhere in the NL Central on Thursday, the Cubs beat the Pirates 5-3, the Nationals and Reds split a doubleheader with the Nationals winning the first game 5-3 but the Reds taking the nightcap 3-0, and the Cardinals over the Diamondbacks 5-4. Milwaukee remains in third place in the division, 2 ½ games behind the Cubs and three games in back of the Cardinals.
Another blowout. Another game. Another blowout. The Milwaukee Bucks have a chance to sweep the Miami Heat out of the playoffs, and they’re making the task of dispatching the reigning Eastern Conference champions look very simple. Khris Middleton scored 22 points, Jrue Holiday added 19 points and 12 assists and the Bucks took a 3-0 lead in their East first-round series with a 113-84 victory in Miami on Thursday night. Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 17 points and 17 rebounds for Milwaukee, which can finish the sweep and move into the East semifinals with a win Saturday afternoon. Miami has lost three games by 29 points or more this season — all against Milwaukee, two of them in the last two games of this series. The Bucks held leads of 51 and 36 points against Miami in games earlier this season; the margin got to 32 on Thursday night. And as if Milwaukee needed another edge, there’s this: No team in NBA history has ever squandered a 3-0 series lead.
Jimmy Butler scored 19 points and Bam Adebayo had 17 for Miami. Nemanja Bjelica — little-used by Miami this season, then called upon Thursday out of desperation for any sort of outside shooting — scored 14 points. Milwaukee outrebounded Miami 56-41, held the Heat to 38% shooting and became the first team to top Miami by at least 29 points twice in the same playoff series. And that’s after the Bucks beat Miami by 47, in Miami, back in December.
Donte DiVencenzo (left foot contusion) played nine minutes and was ruled out for the rest of the game. He missed all four of his shots. … The last time Milwaukee allowed fewer than 36 points in a first half was April 22, 2018, when it gave up 35 in a playoff game against Boston. The Bucks gave up 36 at Indiana on Nov. 16, 2019.

On the men’s PGA Tour, Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia each shot a 7-under 63 to tie for the first-round lead in the Charles Schwab Challenge. Eric Compton and Jason Kokrak are two shots off the pace entering round two.
Three weeks after beating Steve Stricker in a playoff in the Regions Tradition for his first major title, Alex Cejka got off to a solid start in his pursuit of a second. Cejka led the morning wave with a 3-under 67 in the Senior PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. Stricker also was 3 under, but had only played seven holes when a line of storms forced the afternoon wave off the course at 3:48 p.m. Play was suspended for the day at 6 p.m. local time. Miguel Angel Jimenez, Mike Weir and John Riegger each shot 68, and Brett Quigley, Shaun Micheel, Gene Sauers, Larry Mize and John Huston followed at 69.
Defensive backs Charles Woodson and Al Harris will have to wait a little longer to be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. The induction banquet, which was scheduled for Aug. 28, has been moved back to Sept. 2. The move was made to better accommodate the football schedule, hall of fame president Tom Konop announced Thursday. The banquet, which is making its return after being postponed multiple times because of the coronavirus pandemic, will not only see Woodson and Harris honored, but other notable figures tied to the Packers as well. Others being honored are Packers director emeritus Bud Selig, the former Major League Baseball commissioner and Milwaukee Brewers owner, with the Bob Harlan Leadership Award; and the late former Packers quarterback and assistant coach Zeke Bratkowski with the Bart and Cherry Starr Recognition Award. New for 2021 is the Media Award, which is going to the late Bud Lea, for whom the award will be named in the future.
The Lambeau Leap will also be recognized as the Memorable Moment in Packers history. Accepting the recognition will be former Packers safety LeRoy Butler, who invented the leap in 1993, and former wide receiver Robert Brooks, who popularized the leap in the following years.
While tickets are sold out, those with questions about the banquet can contact the hall of fame office at (920) 965-6984.
