FDL Drug Dealer Pleads
A 28-year-old Fond du Lac man Monday pled “no contest” to heroin and cocaine trafficking charges, the heroin charge stemming from one of the largest heroin seizures in Fond du Lac’s history. Three other charges against Torry Howard were read into the record and dismissed. He will be sentenced on August 13th. According to the criminal complaint police learned of a large heroin supply being brought from Detroit to Fond du Lac on February 5th of last year. They recovered a third of a pound of heroin, half a pound of cocaine and marijuana from a vehicle stopped in the city. The combined street value was estimated at $71,000. The other suspect in the case 23-year-old Demetri Howard of Fond du Lac returns to Fond du Lac County court for a hearing May 13th.
Oneida Casino Reopening Following Shooting
The Oneida Casino near Green Bay and its IMAC locations will reopen tomorrow morning at 8 am following this weekend’s shootings that left two people and the shooter dead. The casino complex in Ashwaubenon has been closed during the shooting investigation since Saturday night. Brown County Sheriff’s officials say Bruce Pofahl, a former employee who was fired earlier this year, walked into the Duck Creek Kitchen and Bar and shot three people. Thirty-five-year-old Jacob Bartel and 32-year-old Ian Simpson were killed in the shooting and 28-year-old Daniel Mulligan was injured. Pofahl was killed by police.
Three Hurt In Accident East Of FDL

Police in Fond du Lac say three people were injured in a three-vehicle crash at State Highway 23 and Whispering Springs Drive Sunday night. Officers learned an eastbound vehicle had stopped in traffic to turn on to Whispering Springs Drive when it was struck from behind. That collision sent the stopped vehicle into the westbound lane where it was struck head-on by another vehicle. The driver of the westbound vehicle was the most seriously injured and was taken to Froedtert Hospital. The driver that struck the other eastbound vehicle from behind was arrested for a fourth OWI offense causing injury and cited for imprudent speed in a work zone.
Waupun Man Charged With OWI Causing Injury
A 37-year-old Waupun man is facing operating while intoxicated causing injury 2nd offense and felony bail jumping charges for injuring another motorist in a traffic accident on State Highway 49. Nicholas Leser will make his initial appearance in Dodge County court on May 17th for the February 12th accident during which he allegedly rear-ended another vehicle twice. According to the criminal complaint the crash left the victim with a slipped disk that required surgery. Leser admitted to investigators that he took Percocet’s that day.
Brandon Native Promoted To FDL Police Detective
Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb recently announced the promotion of Officer Vance Henning to Detective. Henning was born and raised in Brandon and graduated from Laconia High School in 1998. He got a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Lakeland College in Sheboygan and is a graduate of the Wisconsin Police Corps training program. He was hired as a police officer by the City of Kenosha in 2002 and worked there until 2007 when he was hired as an officer with the City of Fond du Lac. Chief Lamb says Henning’s efforts as an officer have been so exceptional that U.S. Attorney General William Barr selected him as one of 23 officers throughout the nation to be recognized for his investigative success.
Virtual Job Fair
Regional workforce partners are now accepting job seeker registrations for the first-ever virtual job fair in the Fox Valley Workforce Development Area. The event will be held completely online from 9 to 11 am tomorrow. Registration is free and is available online. The virtual hiring event will be conducted through the Premier Virtual platform. Job seekers-unemployed, underemployed or just unhappily employed-will be able to visit virtual booth space, watch videos posted by the companies and view link to recruiting materials. FDL Area Foundation Grants Announced
The Fond du Lac Area Foundation has awarded 31 grants totaling over $85,000 to non-profit organizations through the Spring Grant Cycle. Each of the 31 grants will uniquely support projects, programs, and organizational needs that focus on improving the quality of life in Fond du Lac County. Foundation Executive Director Joe Braun says twice a year their board of directors reviews and directs the grants to many great organizations in the community. Grant awards ranged from $500 to $5,000. A list of the grant recipients is available at the Foundation’s website.

Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council Members Named
The state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has announced the members of the second Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council. The students, who will be high school seniors during the next school year, will begin their one-year term in September. Among the 15 students is Isabella Kraus of Beaver Dam, Cameron Pokorny of Waupun, and Maria Zillges of Larsen. The Council members will participate in monthly virtual sessions, interacting with speakers and participating in discussions about Wisconsin agriculture.
