Tentative Trial Date Set For Fox River Mall Shooting Suspect

A tentative trial date has been set in Outagamie County court for the 17-year-old Oshkosh man who shot and killed a man and injured another person at the Fox River Mall on January 31st. The trial for Dezman Ellis is tentatively scheduled to begin on December 13th. Ellis is accused of shooting 19-year-old Jovanni Frausto during a dispute over a girlfriend and of shooting a bystander. The trial date hinges on whether prosecutors have to try another murder case first. In Wisconsin a 17-year-old can be considered an adult for criminal court.

Political Leanings Influence COVID Vaccine Rates

Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says as more people get vaccinated against the coronavirus the reasons for not getting vaccine seem to be either political or because of lack of information. He says the biggest percentage (44 percent) who do not plan to get vaccinated have conservative political values. He says distribution issues and lack of good information available about the vaccine seems to be more of a problem in rural areas. In the United States over 45 percent of the population has gotten at least one dose of the vaccine and 34 percent are fully immunized.

Ripon Wine Walk Returns

The pandemic forced the cancelation of both wine walks usually held in Ripon last year, but the Wine Walk will return this summer with a sponsor. Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon says Brad Tagliapietra of American Family Insurance will be sponsoring the Friday, August 6th event which will run from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Tebon says they are working with the City of Ripon to hold the event outdoors to better accommodate social distancing guidelines. Attendees will be able to sample up to 20 different wines throughout the evening at outdoor tasting stations. The Wine Walk is currently sold out, but additional tickets may become available.
