FDL Police Memorial Ceremony
Fond du Lac Police will host a Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony this afternoon at 1 pm at the Police and Fire Memorial in Hamilton Park. It’s an opportunity to honor the three City of Fond du Lac police officers William Prinslow, Nick Klaske, and Craig Birkholz shot and killed in the line of duty over the years. The occasion also marks 10 years since Officer Birkholz was shot and killed while responding to help other officers when a sexual assault suspect started firing on them. It is also the last memorial ceremony for keynote speaker Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb who will be retiring next Tuesday. In addition to Birkholz, Prinslow and Klaske, State Trooper Trevor Casper was shot and killed during a gun battle with a bank robbery and murder suspect in March of 2015 in Fond du Lac.
Vaccine For Older Children Another Tool During The Pandemic
A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says the vaccination of 12 to 15-year-old children against the coronavirus is another important step in the battle against the pandemic. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says older children seem more prone to getting the virus. He says it would be good if the children could be vaccinated while they are in school, but some districts are already saying they won’t participate in that effort. Many districts are coming up on the end of their school year and summer vacation when a vaccination effort for those older children would be hard to mount.

Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says Deputy Blaine Evans was there to celebrate a family member’s birthday and stopped at Scheels for some ice fishing equipment when the shooting occurred. Evans assisted a wounded bystander and also helped in a search for the suspect. Waldschmidt says Evans training kicked in. He notes you never know when you’re going to have to fall back on the training it could come whether you are on or off duty.
