Lewiston Couple Charged Following Fire

Patrick Adler

Two Town of Lewiston residents are facing drug charges after a Columbia County Sheriff’s deputy found evidence of drug use and sales in their home during a porch fire. The deputy last Saturday forced entry of the home in the Oakwood Estates to clear it of any people that might be inside, but saw evidence of drug sales and manufacturing in the home.  A search warrant was obtained and among the drugs recovered were marijuana, psilocybin, and a Schedule 1 controlled substance. As a result the residents of the home 34-year-old Patrick Adler and 28-year-old Kate Hardyns are facing a variety of charges including multiple counts of child neglect.

Use Of Force Policy

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says his department’s use of force policy easily met the new standards issued by Governor Evers in an executive order. Waldschmidt says the Governor’s order applied to state agencies like the DNR and State Patrol, but he’s proud to say his department’s policy already met all eight of the Governor’s standards. “When that executive order came out we reviewed it just to see if there was anything we could derive out of there or take from there to make our policy better and all eight of the standards that he set for the state agencies we already met and have met for a long time. Our policy manual has had those in policy.” Sheriff Waldschmidt says their policy manual is a living, breathing document and one they are constantly looking to improve upon. He notes anyone can look over their use of force policy which can be found on their website at the bottom of their home page.

AG Candidate On Safer At Home Record

State Attorney General Candidate Eric Toney is setting the record straight on his enforcement of Safer at Home orders. The Fond du Lac County District Attorney says he dismissed all charges filed for violations of the Safer at Home order after the extended Safer at Home order was struck down by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He says no one was convicted by his office for violating any Safer at Home order and no one was prosecuted for mask violations or lack of social distancing. He informed county officials he would not enforce the Governor’s mask mandate because it was clearly an abuse of power and an unlawful executive order. Toney says only a small number of the more than 200 complaints called into local law enforcement made their way to his office.

Anti-Vaccinators

Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says there seem to be two classes of anti-vaccinators or people steadfast against getting vaccinated. He says the first are those that just need to get the right information about questions they have regarding the vaccine. “One people that have legitimate questions and they need to go to their doctor. We need to make it as frictionless as possible to get the kind of answers that they want and that they trust and make it easy for them to make a decision about whether they are vaccinated or not.” He says the other class of people is those who have political views that won’t allow them to be objective about the COVID vaccines.

Good Samaritans

Captain Howard Stibb and Koran Belfeuil

Town of Ripon Police Captain Howard Stibb says two women honored at last month’s annual Town Board meeting for lifesaving efforts were both cases of being in the right place at the right time. Koran Belfeuil saved the life of a snowmobiler who collided with a car coming out of driveway that a snowmobile trail cuts across on County Highway E. In the case of Rebecca Hibicki she saved the life of her husband who had been involved in a farming accident on State Highway 44. In both cases tourniquets were applied as they waited for other help to arrive. Stibb says he has no doubt what they did saved lives. He says there are more Good Samaritans out there than one may think. “A lot of them are more so they just want to stay behind the scenes. They look at it, yes I did something good, but I’m not looking for any kind of recognition whatsoever. They are not blowing their own horn about doing any of this stuff but they feel good about what they’ve done.” Stibb presented both women with awards. Hibicki’s husband was on hand for her award.
