New Kids Program Comes To Town Square Community Center

11 April 2021 News

Green Lake, WI- To help celebrate Community Animal Month at Town Square, instructor Kathy McLaughlin is challenging students, ages 8-12, to let out their inner creative beast in this new two-part workshop on Saturday, April 17, and 24, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Town Square! ($25 class fee includes two workshops and material costs.)

Students will learn how to use various mediums and techniques, including wood, paint, beads, buttons, sharks teeth, and more, to design their fierce mixed media portrait inspired by their favorite animal or pet. Kids will build their works of art on a 12″ x 16″ canvas and use an assortment of materials to create a fantastical background. Once the setting for their animal is complete, students will paint and embellish to enhance their creature.

Local artist Kathy McLaughlin, a resident of Green Lake, has been a longtime volunteer since the Town Square Community Center opened. In the past, she has coordinated the Saturday Art Market and has taught many children’s craft classes at Town Square.

Ms. McLaughlin is working on a new series of monthly craft workshops (third Saturday of each month) that she will lead in our new and Maker Space at the community center. She is excited to share her passion for art with youth in the Green Lake community and looks forward to seeing what the students will conjure up.

These programs are made possible by the generous community support of Town Square Community Center, located at 492 Hill Street in Green Lake and operated by the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization Green Lake Renewal.
