Chase Suspect Bound Over For Trial
A 31-year-old Appleton man who led Sheriff’s deputies on an 18.5 mile chase has been bound over for trial. Freddy Abril was in Fond du Lac County court last Friday for a preliminary hearing. He’s facing five felony and three misdemeanor charges for the April 12th pursuit. No one was hurt during the chase, which actually started when he fled from a traffic stop in Neenah. He will be arraigned on May 7th. He is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.
Waupun Man Sentenced To Federal Prison On Drug Charges
A federal judge recently sentenced a 29-year-old Waupun man to just over 9 years in federal prison for dealing methamphetamine. Timothy Savannah was sentenced to 9 years and 2 months in prison on the distributing charges in the U.S. Western District Court of Wisconsin. He was charged in Sauk County Circuit Court following a drug raid in Lake Delton last September. An undercover police officer bought methamphetamine from Savannah in Lake Delton on two separate occasions that month. Savannah was staying in an apartment in Lake Delton at the time and during a drug raid of that apartment authorities seized more than $7,000 in cash, drug paraphernalia, a loaded handgun, and a variety of drugs.
Groundbreaking At EAA
The Experimental Aircraft Association’s “Project 21” initiative, including the first expansion of the EAA Aviation Center in Oshkosh in more than 20 years, will bring year-round aviation education and training to current and future aviators. Groundbreaking for the two-story, 30,000 square foot facility, connected to the EAA Aviation was held Monday. The $6.2 million project, completely funded through a capital campaign separate from EAA member dues, will feature an innovative Pilot Proficiency Center and a hands-on Youth Education Center. These facilities are adjacent to the museum’s current Eagle Hangar and will allow individuals and groups to experience all of EAA’s resources on a year-round basis.
COVID Vaccine Testing For Children
Testing continues to see if COVID-19 vaccines are safe for children. Although the state allows the vaccination of children 16 or older not all of the vaccines are approved for those under 18 and those that are might require parental or guardian approval for the child. Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says approval was given to test out the vaccine on a researcher’s 7-month-old child in a trial. Puhlmann-Becker says in the early days of the pandemic it was believed that younger children did not get the coronavirus when in fact they didn’t display the symptoms even when they had it.
Officers Of The Year
Two Beaver Dam Police Officers were recently named the Dodge County Law Enforcement Executive Association’s 2020 Officers of the Year for their work on a Beaver Dam murder cases. The work of Lieutenant Terrance Gebhardt and Officer Meagan Scott led to the successful prosecution of Ulisses Medina Espinosa for the shooting death of his ex-wife in March of 2019. As a result he was sentenced to life in prison. The case took over two years to complete. Dodge County District Attorney Kurt Klomberg says, “Our Office could not have served this family in the way we were able to without the direct partnership we had with Lt. Gebhardt and Officer Scott.
Mercury Marine Held COVID Vaccine Clinic

Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac hosted a COVID-19 vaccine event last Saturday to provide employees the opportunity to receive the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. All local Mercury Marine employees were eligible to register for a vaccine appointment, which was provided by a third party vaccinator. In all more than 160 shots were distributed. As the Moderna vaccine is a two-dose process, all employees who received the vaccine will return May 22nd to receive a second dose.
Blood Drive In Neshkoro
The Community Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive at the Zion Lutheran Church in Neshkoro tomorrow from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Juliana Falk of the Blood Center says the pandemic slowed down blood donations, but there is still a great need for it. She says they only encourage those who feel well to donate blood and they do take precautions given the pandemic. Because of COVID-19 they will not accept walk-ins. Lemonade Day
After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Lemonade Day returns this Saturday. The program is meant to foster an interest in entrepreneurship for children in third through sixth grade and 150 children will participate working 44 lemonade stands throughout Fond du Lac County. Envision President and CEO Sadie Parafiniuk says kids can even take out “Lemon Loans” to help flesh out the ideas they have for their stands. There is information available on where each stand will be located at lemonadeday.org. Saturday’s program will run from 11 am to 2 pm.
