Couple Involved In FDL County Chase And Standoff Charged
A man and a woman involved in a chase and standoff incident involving a baby have been charged in Fond du Lac County court. Charges were filed Monday against 34-year-old Louis Stone of Merrill and 30-year-old Paulina Meshigaud of Green Bay (pictured) for the March 9th incident. The 14-mile chase concluded when deputies maneuvered Stone’s vehicle into a ditch in Dodge County. But he had a large butcher knife and Meshigaud and a baby were also in the vehicle with him. Eventually he surrendered and was taken into custody. He is currently in the care of medical professionals. Stone told deputies Meshiguad used Google Maps and was acting as his navigator during the chase. The couple is the baby’s parents. The two are facing first degree recklessly endangering safety, eluding an officer and other charges.
Theft By Contractor Charge Brought Against Berlin Man
A theft by contractor charge has been brought against a 57-year-old Berlin man whose business allegedly failed to complete chimney repair work at a residence in Ripon. According to the criminal complaint the victim paid $9,000 of the more than $18,000 estimate for the work up front to the company called Magic Sweep, which subsequently went out of business. Daniel Hertzberg is the owner of the business. The work was originally contracted in November of 2019, but the company when contacted two months later said there were employee health problems. Eventually the matter was brought to police who contacted Hertzberg in March of 2020 and he said he would get back to the investigating officer by the end of the month. The officer never heard from him again.
Winnebago County Crash
Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say no one was injured Monday night when a car hauler crashed on the Highway 21 ramp to Interstate-41 northbound. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Craig Quick says the car hauler went across the ramp and crashed into a barrier losing three of the four new trucks it was hauling. All four trucks were damaged. The driver was treated at the scene and released. The ramp was closed down at 9:35 pm and wasn’t reopened until 4 am Tuesday morning. Weather was a factor in the accident. Roadways were slick and snow covered at the time of the crash.
Gas Prices Increasing
The AAA weekly fuel gauge report indicates following last month’s winter storm in Texas, the national gas price average has jumped nearly 40 cents to $2.86 a gallon. Prices are expected to continue to increase this week, following the Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly reports showing a second week of major decline in gasoline stocks and a substantial increase in U.S. demand. On Monday the average price of gasoline in Wisconsin was $2.70 a gallon compared to $2.08 a gallon a year ago. Officials say the jumps in price at the pump are likely not to be so substantial by April.
Some Long Haulers Get Relief After Receiving COVID Vaccine
A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says some of the so-called “long haulers” or people who continue to suffer from COVID symptoms after they’ve had it are finding relief once they get the vaccine. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says those “long haulers” seemed to experience the symptoms again after getting the first dose of vaccine. “They are finding that they are showing the symptoms on the first dose because their body already had COVID so the body recognizes the virus and here you are basically stimulating your body to say this is what the virus looks like, you’re not really injecting the virus but something that makes your body believe it sees the virus.” He says on the other hand about a third of those long haulers experienced relief from the symptoms they have long suffered with following that first dose of vaccine.

Envision Greater Fond du Lac is partnering with Fond du Lac County to complete a county-wide survey assessment of broadband internet access and service. All residents are encouraged to complete the short survey detailing their home internet capabilities. Envision President and CEO Sadie Parafiniuk says in order to be eligible for state grants for broadband access they have to map what internet access is available, which the residential survey will allow them to do. “We want to map the entire county to find out where our unserved , where are we underserved so we have good look at the entire county because the next step in that process is applying for grant funds.” She says next they will survey businesses. Fond du Lac County is one of six counties selected to participate in the Broadband Connectors Pilot. The survey is available at the Envision website under the “about” tab.
