Escaped Sex Offender From Green Bay Caught In FDL County
An escaped high-risk sex offender from Green Bay was captured in Fond du Lac County. Fifty-six-year-old Roy Burnam (pictured) is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail. On March 9th he fled his residence in Green Bay after cutting off his GPS monitoring bracelet. He was convicted of child sexual assault and ordered by the court to live under the supervision of the Department of Health Services at the residence in Green Bay. That was after a judge ordered him released from a state treatment facility for sex offenders. He moved to the home in Green Bay in 2018.

Contact Tracers Were At Higher Risk Of Burn Out
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says she’s glad the staff at the Health Department no longer has to put all of their energy into contact tracing for the COVID-19 virus. She says at the peak of the epidemic in the county the majority of her staff and 20 additional people hired by the Health Department were doing contact tracing. Mueller says it was a negative experience that put her staff at a greater risk of burn out. “You know it isn’t easy those recipients on the other end getting a call from one of my staff hearing that they either tested positive or they were exposed to someone that tested positive, it’s more so negative.” She says it is a different atmosphere with vaccine available and her staff being able to work at the clinics, but people want to get the shots because they represent light at the end of the tunnel.
Cookie Daze Other Ripon Chamber Events Being Evaluated
Cookie Daze was one of the events in Ripon that got canceled last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It would have been a big year for the event too since it was the 25th anniversary, but social distancing and other restrictions in place at the time would have made it impossible to stage at Barlow Park. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says they are going through a Program Optimization Review for Cookie Daze and other events put on by the Chamber to see it they can be put together and what they might look like. “So we take a look at all the programs the Chamber offers and go through those with a fine-tooth comb and determine what is going to be able to be done and how it is going to be able to work and those kind of things too so we hope to have some more details as we move a little bit forward.” He says when they evaluate such events they try to determine if it is still providing value to the community and if there is a way to make it better.
Boys And Girls Club Tri County Adapted To COVID Safety Measures
When Safer at Home orders went into effect last year the Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County area had to shut down their Berlin facility to the public. Ashley Bartol is the Club’s Special Events and Marketing Manager. She says they were still operating, but had to make adjustments including some virtual offerings. “When everything else shut down we shut down too in our building opening, but we still functioning. We were serving meals in the Ripon, Berlin, Green Lake areas. We were doing virtual programming.” She says before they reopened their facility they worked together closely with the County Health Department to figure out what the best safety measures were and put them in place. That included putting kids in pods or smaller groups keeping the same teachers for each pod. Other measures included face masks, hand sanitizer and other precautions.

Owls Having Tough Time On Wisconsin Roadways

Owls seem to be having a particularly tough time along Wisconsin’s roadways. In addition to an injured owl recently recovered by the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department had two in a week’s time. One was injured in the area of Highways 45 and 41 and another was recovered late last week by an employee of the Winnebago County Highway Department. Both of the owls found injured in Winnebago County were turned over to the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary for additional care.
