Waupun Utilities Customers Receiving Scam Calls
Waupun Police say customers of Waupun Utilities have been getting calls from someone claiming to be with the city’s utilities stating their account is past due. Waupun Utilities says customers who have fallen behind will receive a personal phone call as a way to be proactive in making plans for a payment arrangement or recommending resources for those in need of assistance during difficult times. They say persons claiming to be with them that request payment be made over the phone, by wire, or money grams to avoid being disconnected are trying to scam you. Waupun Utilities does not accept payment over the phone and doesn’t make personal calls outside of normal business hours Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. If you aren’t sure about your account or a payment give them a call.

State officials say Federal COVID Relief funding approved in late 2020 will allow 42 highway construction projects totaling $147.3 million to advance ahead of schedule. Projects were selected to address priority roadway and bridge condition needs throughout the state of Wisconsin. Among the 10 projects slated to begin this year is resurfacing of State Highway 22 from County Highway N to U.S. Highway 45 in Waupaca County. Vaccine Employee Testing
A member of the Ripon Community COVID 19 Task Force says testing of employees at two big medical systems in California shows just how effective the vaccines are. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says a third test in Israel reflected those two firms success and in a country that has seen more variants of the coronavirus. “They had less than one-half of one percent of their employees who were fully vaccinated tested positive for COVID and this is thousands of employees 7,000 employees in Israel they are finding the very same thing and Israel has been extremely successful in getting their population vaccinated.” He notes the employees of the California medical firms are more prone to getting the disease because of their exposure to it which gives the testing more credence.
State Senate Bills Remember The Victims
State Senator Joan Ballweg says a couple bills passed by the State Senate last week makes sure we don’t forget about victims whether they were rape victims or victims of genocide. The state lawmaker from Markesan says one bill sets up guidelines for storing rape kits for every department and jurisdiction in case a victim that didn’t want someone prosecuted for the crime changes their mind over time. “Because we know that there are many times that these kits are collected and the victim doesn’t want to pursue any action so this gives a timeline that these kits should be saved in a proper storage for 10 years.” She says another bill ensures that schools are allowed to teach about the holocaust and other incidents of genocide such as in Cambodia and Rwanda.
Summer Concert Series Returns
The Horicon Bank Ripon Summer Concert Series returns to the Village Green in downtown Ripon this summer. Ripon Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon says they got letters from people saying how much they missed the entertainment venue that the pandemic cancelled last year. “And it was cool last year we actually got letters and emails from people saying we didn’t know what we had until we missed it. But the concert series we try to keep it diverse so we do try and make sure there is something for everyone which isn’t really possible but we do our best.” The free outdoor concerts take place from 7 to 10 pm Friday evenings at the Village Green. Tebon says they hope to open the series with the Ripon Middle School and High School Jazz Bands on June 3rd. Other performers include The Jimmys on June 4th, Altered Five Blues Band, Bad Habitz and more. A complete list is available at the Ripon Main Street website.
