Death During FDL County Traffic Stop Being Investigated

During the course of investigating a domestic incident at a Town of Taycheedah residence early Sunday morning Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies encountered a suspect with a firearm. The initial call involved an argument between a man and a woman involving a firearm. While talking with the woman deputies stopped a vehicle that had left the residence at the intersection of County Highways WH and W. The suspect was hiding in the trunk and brandished a firearm. A perimeter was set up and deputies attempted to negotiate with the man for several minutes when he suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He was taken to a regional trauma center where he later died. No one else was injured and no deputies discharged their weapons. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an independent investigation into the traffic stop. The incident occurred at 12:15 Sunday morning.
