Chase And Standoff Incident In FDL And Dodge Counties

10 March 2021 News

There were tense moments following a high speed chase in Fond du Lac and Dodge counties last night when a 34-year-old Green Bay man grabbed a baby from a rear car seat while holding a butcher knife. The stand-off incident followed a 14-mile chase that began on Highway 151 southbound near State Highway 23 and culminated when the suspect’s vehicle was maneuvered into a ditch off State Highway 175 just south of State Highway 49 in Dodge County. But the man had the large knife and there was a woman and the baby inside the vehicle with him. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s SWAT team was deployed and after several hours of negotiation the man was taken into custody without incident. No one was injured, but two squad cars were damaged using the maneuver that got the suspect’s vehicle off the road. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says the incident posed a significant risk to many involved.
