Ripon Dispatchers Serve The Community Well
Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says the hardest thing about the city switching to Fond du Lac County Dispatch is the potential loss of the four employees that serve them as dispatchers. He says it has been the toughest part of the conversation about the future of the dispatch because those employees have served them well over the years. “That’s been the big issue I’ve had as far as concern for my staff. Those girls have done a lot for this community. They continue to be professional even throughout this conversation.” The Ripon Common Council will be looking at severance packages for those employees, but Wallner says Fond du Lac County will have to hire dispatchers for the transition and those employees are already familiar with the way things work.
Speaking Up For Sheltered Work Sites
Congressman Glenn Grothman says when he gets the opportunity he hopes to meet with secretaries for the new Biden Administration to talk about the future of sheltered workshops. He says places like Brooke Industries in Fond du Lac and Green Valley Enterprises in Beaver Dam provide employment for people of different abilities. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says their existence could be threatened under the new administration if someone doesn’t speak up for them. “Because they are under attack and that will be determined by the Department of Labor and Department of Education so I am going to want to meet those secretaries as soon as I can with the Biden Administration.” He says without sheltered work sites you wouldn’t be able to match the number of jobs available in the community for people with disabilities.
Have Head Lights On During Inclement Weather
A captain with the Town of Ripon Police Department urges drivers to turn their head lights on in inclement weather no matter what time of year it is. Howard Stibb says if you have automatic head lights don’t rely on them to go on. “There’s so many cars nowadays that have the automatic head lights that once it gets to a certain darkness where the lights will come on by themselves, don’t rely on that.” He notes automatic head lights might be more convenient, but don’t always operate the way they should. He says your vehicle will be easier to see for others and you won’t blend in as much. Stibb also says it’s a good idea to use head lights prior to dawn and as dusk approaches.
