Hopes For A Strong School
Rosendale Brandon Schools Superintendent Wayne Weber says he’s hoping fall out from a decision to close the Brandon Middle School next school year won’t result in people open enrolling their kids to other districts. He says they will still operate the elementary school in Brandon and no matter where their middle school is they will continue to have a strong school district with the same academic excellence drive. “We know that we’ve got a number of kids that live not only in that Brandon community, but then open enroll from outside of that community area to Brandon School so we want to keep that strong elementary school there.” The Rosendale Brandon School Board at their February 15th meeting voted 6 to 3 to close the Brandon Middle School next school year and consolidate those students to the Rosendale Intermediate School.

A 36-year-old Ripon man is charged with strangulation and suffocation, and disorderly conduct for a domestic abuse incident in the 800 block of Metomen Street last Saturday night. According to the criminal complaint the victim ran out of an apartment building frantic, crying and running through the snow in her bare feet. She and her alleged attacker Adam Schultz had been drinking throughout the day and he became upset with her for taking too much time as they prepared to watch a movie, which led to a fight. Schultz allegedly yelled at officers as they responded to his apartment and continued yelling and making derogatory comments as he was escorted from the apartment in handcuffs. He made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County court Tuesday and was released on a $1,000 signature bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 23rd.
Paycheck Protection Program Reopened
Ripon’s Main Street program reminds business owners that the U.S. Small Business Administration is reopening the Paycheck Protection Program. Lenders are prepared for lending, and business owners should prepare their pre-applications. The Paycheck Protection Program provides loans to help businesses keep their workforce employed during the Coronavirus crisis. What the SBA is offering includes; first draw loans, second draw loans, and loan forgiveness. You can check with your local lender for details.
Skills Gap
The Director of Business Intelligence for Envision Greater Fond du Lac says with retiring baby boomers the county is going to have a significant skills gap in its workforce. Elle Henne says they will have to do their best before that happens to provide the needed employees for the county’s businesses and industry. “So we figure in about the next 10 to 15 years that about 25 percent of our population is going to be over the age of 65 and we’re going to have over 34,000 retirees in the county at that time.” She says that’s why they are getting more creative in teaching businesses on how to fill that need. For example earlier this month they held a virtual program about hiring the formerly incarcerated.
FDL Fire And Rescue Reaccredited
Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue recently became an internationally reaccredited agency. Several senior members of the department’s staff, City Manager Joe Moore and Local 400 President Keith Wendt went before the Commission on Fire Accreditation International Monday afternoon via Zoom to seek reaccreditation. The commission voted unanimously to again grant accredited status to Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says he’s proud of their entire organization and it was truly a team effort.
