Ripon Common Council Votes To Join FDL County Dispatch
27 January 2021 News
Ripon will be consolidating its dispatch center with Fond du Lac County. The Common Council voted 8 to nothing to reconsider the issue after voting down the move at their January 12th meeting and after some discussion voted 6 to 2 to join the county dispatch. Police Chief Bill Wallner had until Monday night’s meeting been providing information to the Council about the pros and cons and possible costs of joining the County or keeping its own dispatch center. But this time he said the time was “now” to speak up. He said the truth of the matter is the city’s dispatch center has been functioning for some time in the capacity of just getting by. He went on to say that if they kept the city’s dispatch center they would be in for a major overhaul in organizational quality. He said they would be setting themselves up for failure and in their line of business that is not something they can afford to do. The County has 33 municipalities and Ripon was the only one providing its own dispatching. The Police, Fire, and EMS will gradually phase into the County’s dispatching program with completion of that phasing in targeted for September. Council members Benjamin Morrison and John Splitt voted against joining county dispatch.
