Reaction To Governor Evers State Of The State Address

13 January 2021 News

Governor Tony Evers pre-recorded his State of the State address and lawmakers watched if from their seats in the Senate and Assembly chambers Tuesday night. The Governor called for the legislature to fix the antiquated unemployment system and spend nearly $200 million on expanding broadband access. He would also like to have a non-partisan commission redraw political boundaries.

Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh in reacting to the Governor’s speech said, “As Governor Evers highlighted this evening, we must enact real public health solutions and provide meaningful economic relief for individuals, families, and small businesses that have been hit hard by the pandemic.”

State Representative Alex Dallman of Green Lake says, “In his address, Governor Evers was quick to blame legislatures of the past for the backlog of unemployment claims that has occurred over the past year. Through no fault of their own, Wisconsin business owners have been forced to close down for days, weeks, or even permanently, due to direct actions taken by the Governor and unelected bureaucrats.” He also said it is apparent the Governor would like to push blame away from himself when it comes to a vaccine rollout plan.

State Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac says, “We need to focus on safely returning our kids to school, keeping our businesses operating, and ensuring Wisconsin remains on solid financial footing.”
