Tyler Polley made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points in the second half to help Connecticut pull away and beat Marquette 65-54 on Tuesday night. Marquette wore black uniforms in support of Jacob Blake, his family and the Kenosha County community. Blake was shot seven times in the back by a Kenosha police officer on Aug. 23. The county district attorney’s office announced on Tuesday that it would not seek charges against the police officer involved in the shooting. Marquette opened the second half on a 12-2 run for its largest lead of the game, 43-25. Polley, who was 0 of 3 from the field in the first half, scored all of his 23 points as UConn outscored Marquette 40-11 in the final 15 minutes. Dawson Garcia had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Marquette (6-6, 2-4 Big East). Isaiah Whaley added 15 points and 13 rebounds for UConn (5-1, 2-1).

Two Green Bay Packers legends and fan favorites are Modern-Era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. LeRoy Butler and Charles Woodson are among 15 players in the running for a gold jacket and a spot in Canton. Butler, a safety, racked up 38 career interceptions and 20.5 career sacks. He’s also known as the “inventor of the Lambeau Leap.” Butler was a crucial part of the 1997 Super Bowl championship team. He spent his entire career in Green Bay. This is Butler’s second year as a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Cleveland Browns announced Tuesday that head coach Kevin Stefanski was among five members of the organization to test positive for COVID-19. Also, three-time Pro Bowl guard Joel Bitonio, who has been with the team since 2014, and wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge tested positive. The team later placed both on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The two other positive results involved coaches. The entire group will miss Sunday’s wild-card game between the Browns and Steelers, which remains on as scheduled. Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, who called plays in training camp and was supposed to call them at times in a preseason that never occurred, will be the offensive play-caller against Pittsburgh. Without Stefanski on the sidelines this weekend, the Browns lose the Coach of the Year candidate who led Cleveland to an 11-5 mark in just his first season. It was the Browns’ first winning record since 2007 and a five-game improvement over last year’s squad.
