Sports for January 14th

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, and the Milwaukee Bucks easily beat the Detroit Pistons for the third time this month, 110-101 on Wednesday night .Milwaukee has won three straight and six of seven. The Bucks built a commanding early lead with a barrage of 3-pointers. Brook Lopez connected three times from beyond the arc in the first quarter, when the Bucks were 7 of 11 from long distance. Detroit was just 4 of 20 overall in the period and trailed 27-13 after one. That pattern continued through much of the second quarter. At one point, Milwaukee led 52-29 and had more 3-pointers (11) than Detroit had field goals (9). The Pistons cut the deficit to 11 at halftime but never seemed like a serious threat to overtake Milwaukee. Jerami Grant led Detroit with 22 points and Svi Mykhailiuk added 18. It was the 20th career triple-double for Antetokounmpo. Jrue Holiday added 21 points for the Bucks. Milwaukee beat Detroit 125-115 on Jan. 4 and 130-115 two days later. The Bucks host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.

Green Bay Packers signed offensive lineman Jared Veldheer on Tuesday, a day later he reportedly has tested positive for COVID-19.  The team announced Wednesday evening they have placed Veldheer on the league’s reserve/COVID-19 list.  ESPN’s Field Yates is reporting Veldheer was placed on the NFL’s COVID-19 list “as a result of a positive test.” Veldheer practiced with the team on Tuesday but was not present during periods open to the media on Wednesday. Now the next step is whether or not the virus has spread to Packers staff and players. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky is reporting he was told the team has been cleared through contract tracing. NFL players are tested every day so as the status of more tests returning positive will be something to watch leading up to Saturday’s Packers-Rams NFC Divisional Round game at Lambeau Field.

Besides Veldheer, two other players did not practice on Wednesday.  Defensive lineman Kingsley Keke (concussion) and tight end Mercedes Lewis (knee) were not on the practice field. Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald (ribs), offensive lineman David Edwards (ankle), wide receiver Cooper Kupp (knee), outside linebacker Terrell Lewis (ankle) and quarterback John Wolford (neck) did not practice.  Jared Goff (right thumb) who started at quarterback for most of the season, was a full participant in practice.

It’s official: Aaron Rodgers will guest host an episode of “Jeopardy!”  The Green Bay Packers quarterback was on the list of guest hosts show producers released on Wednesday. Rodgers said on a podcast Tuesday that he would be a guest host. Other guest hosts are Mayim Bialik, star of FOX’s “Call Me Kat;” and journalists Katie Couric and Bill Whitaker. For each guest host appearance, “Jeopardy!” plans to make a donation to a charity of the host’s choice. The guest hosts are appearing following the death of longtime host Alex Trebek. The 80-year-old died in November after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Former “Jeopardy!” champion Ken Jennings and executive producer Mike Richards are hosting the show while the guest hosts prepare. Air dates of the guest hosts’ shows were not announced.
