Decision About Brandon Middle School Future Being Considered

A tough decision lies ahead for the Rosendale Brandon School District regarding the future of the Brandon Middle School. District Superintendent Wayne Weber says the school has declining resident enrollment, but in the past they’ve been able to make that up through open enrollment. “That has worked for us for many, many years because we have had the numbers to make that possible the student numbers to make that possible. But as we look forward our enrollment, our resident enrollment, has been on a gradual decline.” The district projects a possible savings of $68,000 by combining the school with the Rosendale Intermediate School and eliminating some positions. The Brandon Elementary School would remain open for 4K through 5th grade students. Weber says the school board will make a decision at their February 15th meeting, but it won’t be made lightly.

Some Long Term Care Staff Took Wait And See Approach On COVID Vaccine

A member of the Ripon Community COVID 19 Task Force says some long-term care facilities employees bided their time in getting the vaccine for the coronavirus. Robin Wolzenberg is The Director of Housing and Clinical Services for LeadingAge Wisconsin. She says the plan was for the vaccine to be distributed in rounds of three for employees and residents of long-term care facilities. She says unfortunately some of those employees decided to wait and see what happened first with those who got the first dose of the vaccine. She says unfortunately they are also risking the health of the residents of those facilities by waiting. “We want to see our families again in assisted living and nursing homes, we want to see them. So part of that and to help long-term care understand we can’t get to that point if we all don’t get vaccinated.” She says nursing home administrators have told them more staff was getting the vaccine during the second round of administering the vaccine having overcome their reluctance. She says for the rest they will have to instill more education and confidence in the vaccine.

Snow Means Go Slow

Town of Ripon Police Captain Howard Stibb says no matter how big or well-maintained a road they can be unpredictable for winter driving. He says highway crews from Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties do a good job of plowing roads in the two counties. He notes town roads have shoulders that aren’t as wide and that contribute to the drifting of snow. “Town roads that is a different story just because the ditches are a lot narrower and you don’t have the traffic there, and you don’t have the road crews putting as much salt down and things. So you get the snow and the ice sticking there more so.” Stibb says even on I-41 though it has a 70 mile an hour speed limit you have to slow down for the conditions, which can include slippery spots and stretches even if it is not snowing much.
