Wisconsin saw a spike in the number of COVID-19 deaths yesterday with 54. That’s the most since January 16th when the state set a single day record of 128 deaths. The death toll since the pandemic began is now at 5,753 people. Meanwhile 1,301 new cases were reported or 24 percent of the 5,448 test results the state got back. For the first time in six days more than 100 people were hospitalized with the coronavirus with 135 new patients. The total number of hospitalizations Tuesday was 746 with 155 patients in intensive care.
Winnebago County reported 18 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday. Fond du Lac County recorded 10 new cases and Dodge County had 19 new cases. Six new cases were reported in Green Lake County and one in Marquette County. Waupaca County had no new cases and the Waushara County Health Department says it has had 13 new cases and one more death since last Friday.
More Eligible For COVID Vaccine
Starting March 1st Wisconsin will expand COVID-19 vaccinations to more groups as part of the Phase 1B rollout. Among them will be people in education and child care, those enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs. Some public-facing essential workers including; retail food workers, grocery store workers, convenience store workers, gas station workers that sell groceries, public transit; 911 operators; agriculture: farmers and farm workers, livestock breeders, livestock veterinarians, insemination providers, farm labor contractors, crop support providers; food production and processing plant employees; hunger relief; utility and communications infrastructure. Non-frontline health care essential workers and residents in congregate living settings will also be included. The entire list is available on the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website.
