State health officials reported fewer than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases the first two days of the New Year, but that changed Sunday with more than 2,400 new cases. The 2,466 positive cases were 53 percent of the 4,588 recent test results returned to the state. Five new deaths were also reported to bring the death toll to 4,875 people since the first COVID deaths were reported in March. Eighty people were hospitalized with the virus with 1,069 total hospitalizations and 225 of those patients are in ICU.
Winnebago County reported 12 new COVID-19 cases Sunday. Fond du Lac County will be updating its totals today, but entered the holiday with 43 new cases. Dodge County’s latest update before New Year’s Eve saw 47 new cases. Green Lake County reached 1,400 total cases with 3 new COVID cases Sunday. Marquette County also had 3 new cases. Waupaca County reported 7 new cases yesterday and the Waushara County Health Department recorded 5 new cases.
