Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is staying with the Milwaukee Bucks for five more seasons. Giannis tweeted Tuesday that he has signed a five-year deal to stay in Milwaukee. Sources say it’s the largest deal in NBA history.
“This is my home, this is my city,” Giannis tweeted. “I’m blessed to be part of the Milwaukee Bucks for the next 5 years. Let’s make these years count. The show goes on, let’s get it.”
No details on the deal were immediately available. Shams Charania, NBA Insider for The Athletic, cited sources saying the “supermax extension” is worth $228.2 million. That’s a record for the NBA.
Giannis had until Dec. 21 to sign a deal with the Bucks or be eligible for free agency after the 2020-21 season. The Bucks have come close to the NBA Finals in the last two seasons. The team brass has made offseason moves to shore up the roster in a championship push. That includes a trade for Jrue Holiday.Team officials say the Bucks’ 2020-2021 season will begin Wednesday, December 23 when they visit the Boston Celtics.
Brad Davison and D’Mitrik Trice each scored 17 points as No. 12 Wisconsin capitalized on its sizzling 3-point shooting to beat Loyola of Chicago 77-63 on Tuesday night. Wisconsin (5-1) went 10 of 18 from beyond the arc and made four of those long-range attempts during a 19-2 run that helped the Badgers build an 18-point advantage in the second half. The game was set up just two days earlier after both teams had scheduled Wednesday matchups scrapped due to the pandemic. Wisconsin had planned on hosting Northern Iowa, and Loyola was supposed to face Duquesne in Indianapolis. Instead, these two midwestern programs squared off for the first time since 1998. Micah Potter had 13 points and Jonathan Davis added 12 as Wisconsin earned its 13th straight home victory. Cameron Krutwig scored 19 points and Lucas Williamson had 15 for Loyola (3-1). Wisconsin hosts Louisville on Saturday. The Badgers and Cardinals originally were scheduled to play on Dec. 9, but the game was postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test and contact tracing within Louisville’s program.
The Packers (10-3) host the Carolina Panthers (4-9) Saturday night. Green Bay did not practice on Tuesday Tight end Jace Sternberger is still going through concussion protocol and wide receiver Malik Taylor is still suffering the effects of a hamstring injury. The Panthers did not practice on Tuesday either but reportedly star running back Christian McCaffrey will not play Saturday night. Panthers coach Matt Rhule said Tuesday that he isn’t expecting running back Christian McCaffrey to be able to go against the Packers in Week 15.The team’s star all-purpose back has suffered various injuries has played in only three games this season. Right now, a thigh injury is limiting the All-Pro running back. In his three games, McCaffrey has scored five rushing touchdowns and one through the air. If McCaffrey can’t go, the Panthers would continue on with Mike Davis at running back. The veteran leads the team with 555 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns.
