Eric Ayala scored 17 points, while Aaron Wiggins added 15 points and nine rebounds as Maryland beat No. 9 Wisconsin 70-64 on Monday. Maryland (6-3, 1-2 Big Ten) snapped Wisconsin’s 15-game home winning streak and a stretch of 10 straight conference wins that dated back to last season. D’Mitrik Trice hit a 3-pointer with just less than 2 minutes left to pull the Badgers (8-2, 2-1) to 60-59. Donta Scott hit back-to-back shots and Ayala knocked down two free throws to put the Terrapins up 66-59 with less than 25 seconds to go. Trice was fouled on a 3-point attempt on Wisconsin’s next possession and hit all three, but the Badgers got no closer. Trice led Wisconsin with 25 points, while Aleem Ford added 10. But the Badgers’ post team of Nate Reuvers and Micah Potter combined for just 12 points as Maryland outscored them 38-20 in the paint. Scott added 12 points for Maryland. The Badgers host Minnesota on Thursday.
The Bucks are back in action tonight as they play the Heat in Miami (1-1). The Bucks (1-2), are coming off a blowout loss to the Knicks in New York on Sunday night, 130-110. Milwaukee stars Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 27 points and Khris Middleton had 22 but it wasn’t enough as New York shot 54.1 percent from the floor and made 16-lof-27 3-point shots, nearly 60 percent. Miami may be without star Jimmy Butler, who is doubtful with a sprained right ankle. Meanwhile, Bucks reserve forward Torrey Craig fractured his nose during a loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday and will not play tonight at Miami. Craig was injured in the fourth quarter. The fracture was discovered after Craig had a CT scan and additional evaluation Monday in New York.
After a convincing 40-14 win at home over the Tennessee Titans, the Packers set their sights on the Bears on Sunday in Chicago. A win for Green Bay 12-3 will give them home-field throughout the playoffs in the NFC while Chicago (8-7) needs a win for a chance to make the playoffs. Aaron Rodgers continued his magic with wide receiver Davante Adams as he connected with Adams on three of his four touchdown passes. Also having a breakout game was rookie running back A.J. Dillon, who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns and showed how tough he is to tackle. Aaron Jones gained 94 yards and went over 1,000 yards for the second straight season. The Packers defense also stymied the league’s best offense coming, holding league rushing leader Derrick Henry to under 100 yards and frustrated Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill by picking off two of his passes and holding him to just 11 completions in 24 attempts and 121 yards. Meanwhile, the Bears are playing well with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky back at the helm. The Bears won at Jacksonville Sunday, 41-17 as they battle for a playoff berth. Sunday’s game has been moved from noon to 3:25 and can be heard on FM 102.3, The Bug, with the pregame starting at 1:00.
In Monday Night Football, the Buffalo Bills crushed the Patriots in Foxboro, 38-9. New England was held scoreless in the second half. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs caught three of Josh Allen’s four touchdown passes as Buffalo pounded away all night at New England’s injury depleted defense. Allen was 27 of 36 for 320 yards and four touchdowns while Diggs caught nine passes for 145 yards and three scores. Meanwhile, the Bills defense stifled Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, as he completed just 5 of 10 passes for 34 yards and ran for New England’s only touchdown. He was taken out in the second half but his replacement, Jared Stidham didn’t fare much better, as he completed just 4 of 11 passes for 44 yards. The Bills (12-3) clinched the AFC East with the win while the Patriots, who were eliminated last week, are 6-9 heading into the final week of the regular season.
