Sports for December 15th

The Packers on Monday reviewed video of their 31-24 win over the Lions in Detroit on Sunday.  With the victory, Green Bay improves to 10-3, atop the NFC North.  Also, the Packers currently have the best overall record in the NFC and are hoping to hold onto the number one seed with three games left in the regular season. The Packers host the Carolina Panthers (4-9) this Saturday night at Lambeau Field.  The Panthers are hoping to have star running back Christian McCaffrey back in the lineup. He’s been limited this season with several injuries and has appeared in just three games. But, he has 225 yards rushing on 55 carries and has scored five touchdowns and also has one touchdown catch.  Saturday night’s kickoff is at 7:15 with the pregame starting at 5:00 and can be heard on 102.3FM, WAUH.

It was the most exciting Monday night game of the year as the Ravens edged the Browns in  Cleveland , 47-42 as Justin Tucker nailed a 55-yared field goal with two seconds left for a 45-42 lead.  The Ravens then scored a safety on the ensuing kickoff for the game’s final points. It was n night when the quarterbacks put on a dazzling show.  Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson briefly left the game in the fourth quarter because of cramps but then came back in after the backup was injured and on a fourth down and five,  threw a 44 yard touchdown pass to Marquise Brown for the go-ahead score.  Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield then marched his team down the field for the tying touchdown.  But the Ravens had enough time on the clock to get in position for the go-ahead field goal for Tucker. Jackson  finished with 163 yards and a touchdown plus 124 yards on the ground and two scores. Mayfield finished with 343 yards and two touchdowns and scored one on the ground. The Ravens improve to 8-5 while the Browns drop to 9-4.

The football game between rivals Minnesota and Wisconsin will be played after all. Big Ten officials announced Sunday that the contest that was called off last month due to concern over COVID-19 cases within the Gophers program is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. It would be the 130th meeting between the teams, which is the longest-running uninterrupted series in Football Bowl Subdivision history and is the most-played rivalry in FBS history. Wisconsin and Minnesota have played every year since 1907. Wisconsin leads the all-time series 61-60-8 and the teams have traded road wins in the last two matchups.
