1 December 2020 Sports

Sports for December 1st

The Green Bay Packers have claimed DL Anthony Rush off of waivers from the Chicago Bears. Rush spent two weeks on the Bears’ active roster in November before being released. Rush (6-4, 361) was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Eagles in 2019. He played nine games with the Eagles in 2019 and four games with the Seahawks in 2020 before being waived. He was then picked up by the Bears but never played in a game.

Meanwhile, the Packers are off today after a convincing Sunday night home win over the Chicago Bears, 41-25. The Packers host the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.

The kickoff for the Packers’ Dec. 13 game at Detroit is being moved from noon to 3:25 p.m. CT. The Week 14 matchup against the Lions at Ford Field will be the second this season between the NFC North rivals. They met in Week 2 at Lambeau Field. The game broadcast will remain on FOX and will presumably have a wider TV audience in the late afternoon time slot. The Packers also play this Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT at home against Philadelphia, so Green Bay will now have the same kickoff time for its next two games. After that, the Packers will play two consecutive home prime-time games on Saturday, Dec. 19 vs. Carolina (7:15 p.m. CT) and on Sunday, Dec. 27 vs. Tennessee (7:20 p.m. CT).

In Monday Night Football the Seattle Seahawks won a defensive battle with the Eagles in  Philadelphia,  23-17. After a scoreless first quarter Russell Wilson led the Seahawks to two-second quarter touchdowns before the Eagles scored a late touchdown to make it 14-6 at the half.  It was 17-9 at the end of three quarters as the teams traded field goals.  Seattle’s Jason Myers added two fourth quarter field goals before the Eagles scored a touchdown with  12 seconds left and a two-point conversion to close the gap 23-17.  An onside kick failed and Seattle ran out the clock.

Wilson was 22 of 31 for 230 yards and a touchdown to David Moore.  DK  Metcalf was his main target, catching 10 passes for 177 yards and Chris Carson scored on a 16-yard touchdown burst up the middle in the second quarter. The Eagles Carson Wentz was 25 of 45 for 215 yards, two touchdowns and he was picked off once.  He also led the Eagles in rushing with 42 yards.  Dallas Goedert and Richard Rodgers caught touchdown passes. Seattle (8-3) leads the Rams (7-4) by a game in a crowded NFC West, followed by Arizona at 6-5 and San Francisco at 5-6.  Philadelphia (3-7-1) missed a chance to take over the lead in a mediocre NFC East and trail the Giants and Washington, both (4-7).  The Cowboys are in last place at 3-8.

Meanwhile the Baltimore Ravens game at Pittsburgh was rescheduled again for the fourth time because of COVID issues.  It was originally scheduled for last Thursday, then moved to Sunday and again to Tuesday, before it was rescheduled for this Wednesday afternoon at 2:40 CDT on NBC. The Steelers are 10-0 and lead the AFC North over the 8-3 Cleveland Browns.  Baltimore is in third place at 6-4.
