Sports for December 4th

The Packers continue to get ready for the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field. Thursday’s injury report showed tight end Mercedes Lewis did not practice because of his knee.   Center Corey Linsley is out for several weeks because of a sprained knee suffered against the Bears.  A number of other players saw limited participation.  CB Jaire Alexander (knee/hand) and S Will Redmond (shuldeer/elbow) were full participants. For the Eagles, LB Fletcher Cox (neck) and S Rudy Ford (hamstring) did not practice.  Sunday’s game starts at 3:25.  You can hear all of the action beginning with the pregame at 1:00 on 102.3FM, The Bug.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the Packers’ nominee for the 2020 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. The award was created in 2014 in honor of the Pro Football Hall of Famer and late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Art Rooney, Sr. It recognizes players who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition. Rodgers is in his 16th NFL season and 13th as the Packers’ starting quarterback. During last Sunday’s 41-25 win over Chicago, Rodgers became just the 11th player in NFL history to eclipse 50,000 career passing yards.

There will be no competitive winter sports at St. Norbert College, Lawrence University and Ripon College due to the spread of COVID-19.

The Midwest Conference has canceled league competition and championships for winter sports during the 2020-2021 academic year. This impacts, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, swimming, diving, indoor track and field, and volleyball. Conference officials are holding out hope for a spring sports season. The Midwest Conference says they made the decision due to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases regionally and nationally.  A meeting will be held next week to decide the fate of the hockey season.

Jrue Holiday took notice along with the rest of the NBA when he discovered the substantial package of players and picks the Milwaukee Bucks sacrificed to acquire him.  The Bucks traded guards Eric Bledsoe and George Hill, first-round draft choice R.J. Hampton plus two future first-round selections as part of a four-team trade that brought them Holiday.  The Bucks gave the New Orleans Pelicans the right to swap two future first-round picks as well.  Holiday says the Bucks’ big investment in him “really, really made me feel like they wanted me to be here.”
