Moderna Vaccine Will Be Used For Nursing Home Staff And Residents First
The Director of Housing and Clinical Services for LeadingAge Wisconsin a senior living advocacy agency says they are waiting for FDA approval of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine to distribute to nursing home staff and residents. Robin Wolzenburg says Pfizer’s vaccine, which came out first, is going to staff in hospitals and clinics. She says Moderna’s vaccine will be used to vaccinate nursing home staff and residents and after that assisted living centers will be prioritized. “Those will be allocated to all long-term care staff and nursing home residents first and I’m saying nursing home and not assisted living for a reason. If you are a campus for instance and you have a nursing home connected to your assisted living all under the same roof all of the staff will get vaccinated and all of the nursing home residents first.” She says while nursing home staff might be a little hesitant about the vaccine, residents and their families are excited about the prospect of getting their loved ones vaccinated. Wolzenburg is also a member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force.
