Ripon Couple Charged With Child Neglect
A Ripon couple was charged this week in Fond du Lac County Court with 25 counts of child neglect. Forty-five-year-old Matthew Hibicki and 41-year-old Rebecca Hibicki made their initial appearances on the charges Tuesday. The charges stem from an investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, which assisted the Department of Social Services after receiving a complaint about seven children living with their parents at N8977 Highway 44 in the Town of Ripon. The children range in age from 2 to 13-years-old. According to the criminal complaint it was suspected the children were living in unsafe conditions and there were concerns about medical care for some of the children. Two Sheriff’s Detectives and two DSS workers toured the property on June 26th. A Code and Zoning Coordinator also inspected the home on that date and based on that inspection it was recommended the children be prohibited from living in the home until many repairs and clean up occurred. The children were found to be dirty and poorly clothed, some had dental or medical issues and they were poorly educated. According to the criminal complaint the house had a lack of plumbing and electricity, animal feces, debris and trash were found in some rooms. Matthew and Rebecca Hibicki were released on $500 signature bonds and have a preliminary hearing on February 5th.

Dickens Of A Christmas Bah Humbug
The Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce’s celebration of the 30th Annual Dickens of a Christmas is being called “Bah Humbug” this year given the number of traditional events that won’t be held because of the pandemic. Still Chamber Executive Director Jason Mansmith says they’ve lined up some events and people can be interactive with some of them. He says Ripon businesses are making the most of it. “Our local businesses have done a fantastic job of making sure that our guests and people have the ability to shop safe. So we trust everybody will follow those guidelines and to do that as well and just to get out there and support as much as they can to shop local here in Ripon.” Among the planned activities Saturday is the Fa La La La La La Local shopping event, Dickens Plaza Bowl Craft Fair, Santa Tours, Artisan Marketplace, a Drive Through Santa opportunity at Mr. & Mrs. P’s and Live Music. More details are available at the Chamber website.
Santa Tours Of Ripon Neighborhoods Starts
Santa kicks off his tour of Ripon neighborhoods this weekend bringing joy to children to start the Christmas season. The tour is being made possible by the Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce and the Ripon Area Fire District, which will provide a fire truck to escort Santa through neighborhoods. Fire Chief Tim Saul says they will sound the siren from the truck when they enter a neighborhood. They won’t be stopping, but it is an opportunity for kids to see Santa prior to his Christmas Eve visit. “We’re going to take him through some neighborhoods. If the kids are out and they are in front of their houses, socially distancing and with masks on we want everybody to be safe but if they are out there Santa might throw you a little treat too.” Santa will be in Wards 1 & 7 from 10 am to Noon Saturday and in Wards 8 & 9 Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3 pm. Other dates and times for the tour are available at the Chamber’s website.

Shop With A Cop Different This Year
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office held its 30th Annual Shop with a Cop program last night at the Walmart in Fond du Lac. This year’s event was a little different due to COVID-19 concerns. That meant numerous adaptions to make for a safe and successful event. Instead of shopping with children, deputies and officers for the first time ever shopped for children and their families. Afterward they delivered gifts to families at their homes throughout the county. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says it was a way to make Christmas just a little brighter for families throughout the county who have been financially impacted by the pandemic or other circumstances.
