The Indianapolis defense kept Aaron Rodgers off the field most of the second half, then forced a game-changing fumble less than a minute into overtime for a 34-31 victory over Green Bay. Rodgers threw three touchdown passes to stake the Packers to a 28-14 halftime lead. But Indy’s defense forced two three-and-outs in the third quarter and a turnover on downs in the fourth to fuel the comeback. Mason Crosby tied the score with a 26-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in regulation. DeForest Buckner’s fumble recovery on the Packers’ second play of OT set up Rodrigo Blankenship’s decisive 39-yard field goal.
Philip Rivers was 24 of 35 with 288 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in his 234th consecutive start, tying Eli Manning for the 10th-longest streak in league history. Former Wisconsin Badger running back Jonathan Taylor had 22 carries for 90 yards in a wild game that included Green Bay scores in the final 10 seconds of each half; Indianapolis erasing a 14-point halftime deficit, then failing to seal the win because of five holding calls on its final drive in regulation. Rodgers took full advantage of the second chance, hooking up with Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a 47-yard pass play. That took the Packers from the 6-yard line to the Colts 47. Seven plays later, Mason Crosby tied the game at 31 with a 26-yard field goal with 3 seconds remaining.
In overtime Valdes-Scantling lost a fumble when hit by Julian Blackmon on Green Bay’s second play. DeForest Buckner recovered and four plays later, Blankenship won it.
Rodgers was 27 of 38 for 311 yards, three TD passes and one interception. Davante Adams had seven catches for 106 yards and one score, and Aaron Jones rushed for another score. The Packers drop to 7-3 but are still in first place in the NFC North while the Colts improve to 7-3 and are tied with the Tennessee Titans for first in the AFC South.
On the injury front, Green Bay had two key players back, receiver Allen Lazard and cornerback Kevin King, but lost center Corey Linsley (back) in the first quarter. He did not return.
The Packers host the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football. The Bears, who are 5-5, had their bye week and are second in the NFC North ahead of the Vikings and the Lion, who are 4-6.
In the NFC North Sunday the Vikings lost at home to the Dallas Cowboys 31-28 and Detroit was shut out at Carolina 20-0.
In Sunday Night Football, Patrick Mahomes threw at 22-yard touchdown strike to Travis Kelce late in the fourth quarter to give the Kansas City Chiefs a 35-31 victory over the Raiders at Las Vegas. Mahomes completed 34 of 45 for 348 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Kelce caught eight passes for 127 yards and a touchdown and Tyreek Hill pulled in 11 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. The Raiders Derek Carr was 22 of 31 for 275 yards and three touchdowns and one interception.
In Monday Night Football Tampa Bay (7-3) hosts the Los Angeles Rams (6-3).
Meanwhile, the Packers announced Saturday the signing of punter Drew Kaser and the elevation of running back Mike Weber from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. The signing of Kaser comes after the team listed punter JK Scott as questionable Saturday due to a personal matter. JK Scott will not travel with the team to Indianapolis, according to the Packers. Cornerback Kevin King is also on the injury report with an achilles injury and is questionable for the game.
Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow was carted off the field with a left knee injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s 20-9 loss to Washington. Burrow was immediately ruled out by the team. The initial diagnosis on Burrow’s injury is a torn ACL but there could be additional damage, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports, per a source. An MRI awaits to confirm the full extent of the injury.
On the men’s PGA Tour, Patrick Streb won in a playoff over Kevin Kisner to win the RSM Classic.
Peyton Ramsey threw two touchdown passes and No. 19 Northwestern shut down Graham Mertz and No. 10 Wisconsin for a 17-7 victory in Evanston on Saturday that put the undefeated Wildcats in control of the Big Ten West.
Northwestern forced five turnovers — four in the first half — and sacked Mertz three times in its first win over a top-10 team since a 28-25 victory over No. 9 Nebraska on Nov. 5, 2011. Ramsey, a graduate transfer from Indiana, was 23 for 44 for 203 yards, and Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman had four receptions for 95 yards.
The Wildcats improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2015. They also moved to 5-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since 1996.
Wisconsin (2-1, 2-1) had committed just one turnover this year, a fumble during a 45-7 victory over Illinois on Oct. 23. The Badgers then had back-to-back games canceled because of a COVID-19 outbreak within the program before rolling to a 49-11 win at Michigan last weekend.
Mertz, a redshirt freshman, lost a fumble and threw the first three interceptions of his career against Northwestern. Mertz was 23 of 41 for 230 yards. Jalen Berger had 15 carries for 93 yards for the Badgers. Senior running back Garrett Groshek also lost a fumble in his return after he missed the victory against the Wolverines.
The Badgers still managed to stay in the game thanks to their stout defense. But Charlie Kuhbander kicked a 32-yard field goal with 11:35 left, and Northwestern finished off another second-half shutout. The Wildcats have allowed just 10 points in the final two quarters this season.
Northwestern got off to a fast start. After Wisconsin went nowhere on its first possession, Ramsey tossed a 2-yard TD pass to Charlie Mangieri with 10:50 left in the first quarter. John Raine set up the score by drawing a pair of pass interference penalties in the end zone.
Groshek then fumbled the ball away for the Badgers, and Chiaokhiao-Bowman’s 36-yard reception on a pass by fellow receiver Riley Lees moved the Wildcats to the Badgers 1. The play was originally ruled a touchdown, but a replay review showed Chiaokhiao-Bowman stepped out of bounds.
According to multiple reports, the Milwaukee Bucks are planning to re-sign veteran shooting guard Pat Connaughton and bring in forward Bobby Portis and point guard DJ Augustin via free agency. Connaughton has been on the Bucks since 2018 after spending his first two seasons with the Portland Trailblazers. The former Notre Dame guard averaged 5.4 points per game with a 45.5 field goal percentage in the 2019-2020 season, according to the team’s website. Veteran guard DJ Augustin has been a member of the Orlando Magic since 2016, and averaged 10.5 points per game in the 2019-2020 season, per the Magic. Bobby Portis, a 25-year-old forward for the New York Knicks last season averaged 10.1 points per game off of 45% shooting in 66 games played last season.
