Shooting In Waupaca

Alcohol appears to be a factor in a shooting that occurred in Waupaca late Sunday night. Police were called to a location just after 11 pm for a man that had been shot in the leg. They provided first aid until an ambulance arrived. He was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Police say it appears to be an isolated incident.

Holiday Gatherings Advice

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says this Thanksgiving given the current pandemic it would be best to limit gatherings to people within your own household. “Having a meal with only people from the same household so who you currently live with. Having a meal with the people in your current household that you’re exposing yourself day in and out that would be safe the safest way you can have Thanksgiving coming up.” She says the more people you have from outside your immediate circle the higher the risk is of getting infected. Mueller also says if you know someone is going through COVID, has been exposed to someone with it or is experiencing symptoms, or someone awaiting test results you should not allow them to be one of your guests. She also recommends planning on low-risk activities like shopping online, and watching sports, parades, and movies on TV. She says it is possible to share your Thanksgiving meal by preparing meals for family and neighbors and delivering them in a way that doesn’t involve contact with others.

Having Your Deer Tested For CWD

A conservation warden with the DNR reminds hunters they can have their deer tested free for Chronic Wasting Disease or CWD. Bill Hankee says there are a few self-service stations in Fond du Lac County. “In Fond du Lac County we have a couple CWD self-sample stations where you can basically drop off your deer head there is instructions at the station.” He says those locations are at Holliday Food and Sport stores in Ripon and Waupun, and the Eldorado Marsh Learning Center. The learning center is located on State Highway 23 on the southwest end of the Eldorado Marsh.  More about CWD sampling can be found on the Department of Natural Resources website.

Senior Thanksgiving Meal Opportunities

Senior citizens in Ripon have a couple opportunities to pick up Thanksgiving meals over the next two days. Ripon Senior Activity Center Executive Director Noreen Johnsons says First Congregational Church every month chooses someone to give meals to and has donated 80 meals to the center, which will be given away to seniors today.  She says those who reserved the meals can pick them up at the Senior Center parking lot or have them delivered this afternoon. “You can pick it up at the Senior Center between 3 and 3:30 and also we have some people who are delivering them around town. They won’t be entering apartment buildings, but if someone lives an apartment we can meet them out front between probably three and four.” In addition the church will be giving away another 120 meals at the church between 5:30 and 6:15 pm, but they are first-come-first-serve. The Fond du Lac County Senior Meal program will also be providing a Thanksgiving meal tomorrow. To reserve one call the Senior Center before 11:30 this morning at 920-748-6225, there is a suggested $3 donation.
