Hankee also urges hunters to carry some identification with them in case they do encounter a conservation warden out in the woods.

Cat’s Survival From Shooting A Miracle
The Oshkosh Area Humane Society is providing care for a cat that was shot and left for dead near a home in Omro. The cat, which Humane Society staff has nicknamed Bernard, was brought to the humane society. Bernie was suffering from an infection. Staff officials say it’s a miracle he survived. He had been shot in the forehead near an eye. The bullet traveled through his palate damaged his jaw and lodged in his shoulder. The nickname Bernard seemed appropriate to staff because it means “brave and hardy.” Surgery will help to correct the damage. Anyone that has information on Bernie’s shooting or that would like to give to the Cuddles Fund for his care can find out more at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society Facebook page.
Some Interactive Opportunities With Dickens
With the pandemic cancelling some of the larger events connected with Dickens of a Christmas Ripon residents will still have some opportunities to be interactive. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says one of the things they are doing is the “Nights of Lights,” which gives people a chance to showcase their outdoors Christmas decorations. “Basically what it is, is a clearinghouse for people that maybe decorate their homes for the holidays, you just hop on our website you register the house we will put the addresses on it, but no names or anything like that. It’s kind of a cumulative list of the homes that decorated in the Ripon area.” In lieu of a tour of homes they will offer the Holiday Home Showcase, which gives residents the opportunity to submit photos or videos of the way they have the inside of their home decorated. That too can be accomplished on the Chamber’s website. Fa La La Local encourages people to shop locally with chance to win $100 in Chamber dollars. Mansmith says they also will have 500 special ornaments hidden in town which you can keep if you find. Some special ornaments can also make you a winner. Details about all the promotions are on the Chamber website under the Dickens of a Christmas tab.
Ripon Area United Way
Like other non-profit groups that depend on donations and fundraisers the Ripon Area United Way is being challenged this year with the COVID-19 outbreak. United Way Board of Directors President Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says this year they are going right to past donors asking for their donations. “This year we are appealing directly to our donors those who have given in the past and some of them are businesses that able to give as generously as they have and some of them are businesses we know have suffered the last eight months and might not be able to do the same.” He says they hope to help out 17 different agencies this year that provide services to the community. The best ways to give are on the Ripon Area United Way Facebook page, on their website or you can mail a donation to the Ripon Area United Way, PO Box 71, Ripon, WI. 54971.
