Winnebago County Sheriff’s K9 Passes Away

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the sudden death of active duty K9 Franz. Over the weekend the police dog suddenly took ill and was rushed to the Animal Referral Center in Appleton. Franz’s condition rapidly got worse and he ultimately succumbed to a brain tumor. His handler Deputy Zill and Zill’s family was by his side. Franz was mostly used in day-to-day patrols, but was often seen doing demonstrations for area schools and at other events.
