Waupun Woman Convicted Of Reckless Homicide In Drug Overdose Death

A 40-year-old Waupun woman has pleaded no contest to a first degree reckless homicide charge for her role in the heroin overdose death of a 23-year-old Fond du Lac man. Cara Zech was in Fond du Lac County court for a plea hearing Tuesday. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing hearing will be scheduled. Zech was one of four people that rode to Milwaukee on July 27th of 2018 to purchase heroin some of which was for Steven Compton. Compton died of an overdose in a bedroom of his Fond du Lac home the next day. Forty-two-year-old Anthony Buechel of Waupun and 48-year-old Julie Harr of Fond du Lac are also facing first degree reckless homicide charges with their cases still making their way through court.
