Sex Offender Being Released In Waupaca County

A 69-year-old sex offender that was convicted in Waupaca County eight years ago of repeated acts of sexual assault of the same child will be moving back to the county next Tuesday. Edward Marquardt will be living at E5423 Gruenstern Road in Marion. He will be on GPS monitoring and will be under Department of Corrections Supervision until October 15th, 2030.  He is currently serving time at Racine Correctional Institution.

COVID Prison Outbreak

The state’s Department of Corrections is reporting another COVID-19 outbreak at a state prison. DOC officials say Oshkosh Correctional Institution has more than 300 active cases among inmates. The prison has a large number of elderly inmates and with nearly 2,000 inmates has the biggest prison population in the state. The surge in cases comes on the heels of an outbreak at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution near Greenbush, which reported 437 active cases the largest at a Wisconsin prison to date. As of Monday, more than 900 inmates and 150 staff had active cases of COVID-19 across all of the state’s adult institutions.

COVID Message Now Delivered With Stern Tone

For eighth months health experts have given us advice on how to protect ourselves from the COVID-19 virus, but now their patience on the subject seems to be wearing thin. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says people like Dr. Anthony Fauci have repeatedly told us to wear face masks, wash our hands, socially distance, and stay home if we are sick but with coronavirus cases exploding in the United State and Wisconsin the tone they deliver the message in has grown more stern. “And increasingly as you watch these people who are experts in their field and specifically for viruses are being less patient with us. They used to say well we can do this wear a mask and they were cheerleaders now they getting to the point that they are saying we are not disciplined and this is falling apart.”

National Guard Continues Specimen Collecting For COVID Testing

Wisconsin National Guard teams continue working in the area collecting specimens for COVID-19 testing. Tomorrow teams will be collecting specimens at Fox Lake Correctional Institution in Dodge County, Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Fond du Lac County, and at Redgranite Correctional Institution in Waushara County. In Winnebago County a team is collecting specimens at two Wisconsin Department of Health Services facilities in Oshkosh and another team will be working at the Sunnyview Expo Center through the end of the year.

Senior Happiness Day At The Ripon Senior Activity Center

The Ripon Senior Activity Center will mark its 52nd Anniversary with a drive-through event on Wednesday, October 21st from 1 to 3 pm. “It will be outside of the Senior Center in that parking lot behind City Hall so you can stay in your car and socially distance on October 21st, which is a Wednesday between 1 and 3 pm. If it is raining we will have a rain date on October 28th.” Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson had nicknamed the event “Senior Happiness Day.” She says there will be cake, which will be individually wrapped and goodies Ripon School District students made plus candy. She says they will have door prizes, a mask contest in keeping with the pandemic, and there may even be some music.

Training Seminar On Hiring The Formerly Incarcerated

As local unemployment numbers continue to improve, the need for employers to be creative in filling open roles means taking a look at all possible new hires, including the formerly incarcerated.
