Car Break Ins Reported In Ripon
(Ripon Police Department photo)
Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says the city recently saw some car break-ins on the south side in the area of Griswold, Ransom, and Woodside. He says it’s a good idea to lock your car doors, remove valuables or keep them out of sight overnight. “You know it is a good opportunity for us to remind people to remove those valuables from their vehicles at night and lock their vehicles in their driveways and out in front of their residences. But yeah we had a rash of vehicle break-ins over the last couple of weeks.” He also asks residents to report any suspicious activity they’ve caught on residential security cameras. Wallner notes a lot of people are getting systems now with the doorbell cameras.

Fundraiser Held Over Weekend For Firefighters Memorial Wall
A brat fry held over the weekend at the fire department in Ripon will help pay for the Firefighter Memorial Wall that is being completed in front of the station. Fire Chief Tim Saul says it’s another project of the Firefighters Association, which has helped them out with equipment purchases over the years. “They do a lot for the Fire District. People don’t realize how much tax dollars they save the taxpayers in equipment for the Fire District’s needs.” He says for the Association a lot of sweat and tears has gone into the Memorial to get to where it is today, which is near completion. He says fundraisers like the brat fry help to defray costs associated with the Memorial.
Fundraisers Hurt By COVID
A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says the pandemic has taken its toll on the usual fundraisers held to benefit non-profits. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker knows what he’s speaking about because he also is the President of the Board of Directors for the Ripon Area United Way. He says because of the coronavirus they weren’t able to hold their kick-off event and won’t be able to stage their popular trivia night fundraiser. “All of these non-profits are really struggling and in some cases they have a dedicated group of people that appreciate the work they do and have stepped up on the giving, but that’s kind of hard to sustain that for how long, and the United Way is worried about it.” Puhlmann-Becker says they are still hoping to have a pacesetter for this fall’s fundraising campaign.
