Wisconsin set a new record for the number of deaths in a day due to COVID-19 with 48 deaths Wednesday. Thirty of the state’s 72 counties reported coronavirus deaths, which inched up the death rate ever so slightly, but it is the first time that metric has increased since June 6th. The death toll since early February reached 1,681 people. The state’s Department of Health Services also reported 4,205 new cases or 42.5 percent of the 9,886 test results. Hospitalizations also increased to a total of 1,190 in the state’s 134 hospitals with 299 of those patients in intensive care units.

Eighty-four new COVID-19 cases and 2 more deaths were reported in Winnebago County Wednesday putting the county’s total cases at 7,807 with 53 deaths. Fond du Lac County recorded 100 new cases and 1 new death, which gives it 3,795 total cases and 19 deaths. Dodge County reported 130 new cases and 1 more death and now has 3,280 total cases and 23 deaths. Fourteen new cases were reported in Green Lake County giving it 632 total cases with 2 deaths. Nine new cases were recorded in Marquette County, which has 537 totals cases and 2 deaths. Waupaca County had 38 new cases Wednesday pushing its total cases to 2,140 with 36 deaths. The Waushara County Health Department reported 20 new cases and 1 new death to put its total cases at 837 and its death toll at four persons since the health crisis began last February.
